Aug. 18, 03 | 09:06 p.m. | Feeling: Meh.

Meh. I got a B- on a major Essay. This will pull my American Lit. mark down to a B+ (if even that). This seriously sucks. Every mark below an 80 feels hurts like a jab from a Klingon pain stick.

Did anyone else see the hugely hyped Nefertiti special on Discovery? It was bloody fantastic!!! They did a poor job explaining the murder theory, but other than that, I enjoyed the show immensely. The pace felt more like Mummy than a documentary, but for a dilletante like me, it was just peachy. Ohh...and the last 2 minutes sent chills down my spine.

Heads up!

Aug. 16, 03 | 05:00 p.m. | Feeling: Taking a break.

Whew, I'm taking a deserved break from cleaning the house. We've had no problems with our power/electricity--yay! If ONLY the TTC can come back on Monday; I'd really like to go to campus and pick up my essays and such. We're being told to conserve our energy by turning off the AC, etc. No biggie, since we don't HAVE that luxury in the first place. Some guy wrote in the Globe that he'd like see an Energy Conservation day established. I think that's a swell--but impractical idea. In the idle, breezy days of August, turning off non-essential appliances for a whole day sounds rather pleasant, but that wouldn't hold true if it's the week before Xmas holidays, when students are up until 4 AM, studying.

I added a new link to Patty's blog. She lives in Cleveland, making her only the second online person I've heard of who lives within that US-Ontario grid like me. So many of you live in the west-coast, or in the south or in Alberta. That's cool^_^. I'll shut about the Blackout now.

Stupid Yahoo, let me into my mailbox! *rage*

I'm working on massive update to my Wallpaper site; hopefully I can put everything up within a week. I'd like to put a tutorial section, but I'm not sure if that's even necessary since my HTML and PSP7 knowledge is so limited. I can share some tricks about PSP 4.12--but who actually uses that anymore?

Aug. 15, 03 | 03:02 p.m. | Feeling: Blacked out.

Well, all the officials are warning us to expect "rolling blackouts" for today, and the next couple of days...but we've had continuous electricity since 4:45 AM this morning. But not everyone is so lucky. People in Ajax, for example, are still without electricity--and now, they don't even have water. I think I heard that Ohio's water supply has also been depleted.

My poor Mom had to walk 2+ hours from downtown, but I was more lucky. I had stepped outside of the house for 2 minutes to pick up the mail and when the blackout occured. For the first time, I realized just how much I took Edison--and electricity--for granted. Anyway, as I mention in my thread at the SS Forum, I'm fine, I'm amused and as long as the Hydro pumps continue to work, I can live quite comfortably without home power for another week (if need be). Ciao!

Aug. 9, 03 | 11:26 a.m. | Feeling: Fine.

Hmm...well, the last test was okay. I think I did a pretty bad job on it but it's over. Thanks Nichole, Amy, and everyone else who sent me good karma *hugs all*.

New layout New layout at Echelon! I'm also working on making a frames layout for my wallpaper site because I can then transfer some of the older wallpapers onto a free account to shave off more space. Sorry Pam!

You know what? I'm starting to feel really stupid these days. There are tons of "intellectual" things I wish I knew about--literary works, criticism, art, classical composers, history. Before anime, I used to read Archeology and Natl Geo and glossy, coffee table-sized books religiously. Now, if I'm not working on school stuff, I'm emmersed in anime/manga. Well, anime CAN be very intellectual, but the fact remains that it's still a mass-produced form of entertainment. When you watch 12 Kingdoms, you are not learning anything about ancient China. I'm just...starting to feel like I'm wasting a lot of time. I feel rather conflicted and sad that my love for Anime and my need to know more trivia than the average person is at odds with each other. *sigh*

Edit: Then again, I LIKE anime; why should I feel guilty about the things I enjoy? Now what's that Tori line...got enough guilt to start my own religion?...

Edit 2: Okay, forget what I just said. I was experiencing a bad case of pre-PMS and pent up chi. Been sweating it out in the garden under a blazing sun and my evil chi fairly exuded out of me^_^;;;

Aug. 7, 03 | 03:28 p.m. | Feeling: Ambivalent

I'm past caring about my last exam. Tonight. Grrrr. I really hate myself right now for being so damned ambivalent about my marks. These last 25% are very significant and I'm just chucking all my hardwork out in one day. Baka! NEway, I'm going to be online/MSN tonight, updating my sites, watching anime and reading manga until my mind implodes. Some annhilistic people turn to booze and drugs to slow down the chaos in their minds. PSP and FTP and BT are MY fix.

LOL, Laetitia, that there's a squickish crossover pairing >_<. Almost as bad as Kent x Edmund, or Kit x William.

Aug. 3, 03 | 01:16 p.m. | Feeling: Ahh!! In a stressed out way.

Okay, I've really, officially, irrevocably graduated from girlhood. I said that last year, but it's this year that I'm starting to feel comfortable being called a "woman" instead of "young girl" or "young woman". You know what I mean.

I'm extremely stressed out at the moment, tackling 2 massive essays and 2 exams. All are due on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. No time to properly thank the birthday wishers (my silence does not spell displeasure!) until this horrible week is over with.

July 27, 03 | 02:18 p.m. | Feeling: Impressed.

The Full Metal Panic official English site is really, really well done. I don't know which animation company I like better, GONZO (FMP, Last Exile, Hellsing) or BONES (Wolf's Rain, CB, Scrapped Princess). Kirsi, I forgot to plug your gorgeous new green layout! I hope you like LE *crosses fingers*. Oh yeah, new guestbook layout.

July 25, 03 | 05:24 p.m. | Feeling: Squeel

I downloaded Last Exile Ep. 16 last night; it was definitely one of the most exciting episodes thus far. Where the first 14 episodes was, more or less, devoted to depicting the growing pains and angst of the teenage Vanship pilots, these last couple of episodesbegin to explore the more complex secondary thread of the power-struggle between Anatore, Dusis and the Guild. Now, here my BT tutorial, and here's AnimeForever's site. If you have not yet seen this anime, I highly recommend that you check it out (provided you have a fast connection).

Two games of chess are played in the same episode; white pieces against black. GONZO seems to be having fun with incorporating these colours into the character designs. For example, Sophia, whose main colours are brown (the hair) and black (the Sylvana uniform), is called by the cool old Engineer dude the "White Queen", and Maestro Delphine (whose hair and clothes are pure white), the "Black Queen". The two Empresses are political enemies (since Sophia now believes in making peace with Dusis, something the Guild has undermining all along) and as personal enemies. Alex claims that his only reason for living is to destroy Delphine. This obviously does not sit well with Sophia. Sophia herself is being set up in a triangle: Alex vs. Vincent, with the former as this broody, dark-caped Sans Joy character and the later, a open-faced, white-uniformed Red Cross Knight. Can't wait 'til the next ep.

July 21, 03 | 12:32 p.m. | Feeling: okay, but a bit glum

bummed outWah, my Dad's leaving for Scotland today. I may not see him for another year. Having another person in the house made me realize just how lonely life was. I mean, it's the summer, so my best friend is working in the countryside again (I shall never, ever understand the attraction of living amongst hay stacks, farmers, bugs, fleas, animals, etc.) and well, I'm so busy with school that Monday to Thursday, I often don't get to see my Mom even though we live in the same house. Everything is just so slow-paced in the summer; I miss the busy hecticness of the Fall.

Woah, two more weeks and I'm finished summer school. I've got a few projects lined up (academic and non) so that should keep me busy. This is noteworthy: today was the first of sign-up for 3rd year students and I had no problems (for ONCE) login into the system and signing up for the 4.5 courses I had most wanted to get into. Next year, I'm taking Latin (can't wait), Modern Drama, 16th and 19th century Poetry/Prose, and Canadian Drama (which is a half credit...yes, all English specialists need a Canadian credit >_<;;;). More importantly, I also got respectable profs--two of whom are said to be stellar academics. I'm very excited. On a less pleasant note, I think my parents trugged in fleas into the house when they dealt with the racoon infestation in the garage. I've been getting bites on my ankles and legs. I did some research--apparently the best way to deal with fleas is to vacuum twice a week. Actually, I recall that earlier on in the summer, I thought I had bed bugs in my room when I woke up with 8 bite marks on my thigh but that mysteriously disappeared. I feel really creeped out!

And my essay? Finished.

July 19, 03 | 04:17 p.m. | Feeling: Hectic!

I gotta go soon to write a...rather difficult essay (aren't they all?). My thesis is on the dialectical portrayal of the nameless narrator in Invisible Man. Fun fun fun!

NEway, I need to jot down a few super fast notes to some friends. Di, this is the original pic for this layout. I'm not sure if it's from XXXholic (I don't even know what that series is about...). BTW, I'm so glad that your political courses are going so well (then again, you're in a really interesting field of study to begin with)! Yay Aki, welcome back to the land of the living (cyber). I'm really flattered, very happy by your interest in my Astarte fanart (which you can still see in the "archive" section) *glomp* This is an amazing new site from Nichole--looking for LJ icons? Look no further than here. Awesome pictures of Beijing, your updates are very entertaining! Sav-chan, God. I'm speechless; I know you're not looking for platitudes. Can I just say that I think you're amazingly strong? *hug*

Trin, yes, the changeability of friendship can be disillusioning and disheartening. All the friends I made last year have drifted away; it's unfortunate, but I don't want to start looking back to the past with nostalgic longing--rather--enjoy the new friends I've made in my summer school classes, and look forward to the interesting new people I will no doubt meet next year. Too often, geographic proximity is the glue that holds friendships together. You could call that sort of friendship shallow or false, but I don't think that would be fair. It's okay, ne? On a brighter note, I'd make you a new AV-layout for free if you would like! Actually, you'd be doing me a favour as I'm dying to experiment more with my new graphics programm ^_^.

New links to Jenna and Reins who both seem like very interesting individuals.

July 15, 03 | 11:23 p.m. | Feeling: Green with envy.

You are NOT in Beijing, China, the city I've been dying to see for the past 4 years?! I had no idea that you would be going (actually, I'm think I'm just generally out of date when it comes to you); I hope you'll have a wonderful, glorious, relaxing and super-fun time in Beijing.

Amy, it sounds like a lot of positive changes are happening in your life, now and in the near future (what with Mr. Cry Baby gone and Fall session around the corner). I hope this relocation is one of those good things. BTW, I love the new OMG! layout. FYI, Canada Post has hinted that there will be a strike coming soon (I can't wait to read your letter....)

Holy shit, I've been getting a short, stabbing pain in my left ear tonight. It rained, but it's now more humid than ever. The air of the study is so thick and I can feel the goiter pressing into my esophagus (even though the PTU medication seems to have worked, I feel like the lump in my neck has grown thicker than ever, really, I have become paranoid and obsessed with this growth in my neck. It's like that humongous pimple that YOU cannot take your eyes off of, but other people seem not to see. But in my case, it's definitely real, and according to the literature I've read, it's irreducible unless you get it surgically removed). That's the one blight in my otherwise smoothly sailing life.

New layout coming very soon, featuring of all things, Yuzuriha and Fuuma. I am not at all promoting this make-belief couple--that's just how CLAMP drew it.

Sav, I would like to see you express yourself without inhibition on your blog, but I also understand that the fact that some of your classmates have your blog address can prevent this. Whatever you decide to do, you've got my support. Quite a few people IRL have my blog address, and maybe some of them even read it once in a blue moon. Surprisingly, I'm not really bothered by it. In writing about my family woes, moody spells and inferiority complex, I have always tried to put in reflection as well as complaint, which I hope exempts me from appearing like a complaining brat in peoples' eyes. Of all the ill impressions people who meet me can have of me, I think appearing immature and thoughtless would be the worst. Anyway, on a lighter note, your observation of my layout design style was really amusing. I was thinking the exact opposite of you! That I don't really have any style to speak of. Although I agree with your comments on Lainie and Sarah-neko's respective styles completely.

Wah, I had better go and code the promised new layout.
