Nov. 23, 02 | 06:36 p.m. | Feeling: Torimania Last night was the Tori Amos concert! We were three strong, always an interesting combination. It was, needless to say, a lot of fun. Tori opened with "A Sorta Fairy Tale" (well, no surprise there), and after 2 encores, she finished off with "Playboy Mommy". She was performing for over 2 hours--that's a lot of stamina! Sadly, I did not enjoy the concert as much as I wanted to because I got a C- in Canadian class. Godamit. Nov. 14, 02 | 12:31 p.m. | Feeling: Fun fun.
How droll! I really like Keats' poetry which tends to be unapolegically dark and uber chivalric. "La Belle Dame sans Merci" is nifty..."St. Agnes" is cool too. However, my favourite romantic poet is Lord Alfred Tennyson--who was perhaps even more handsome than Keats. Ah...next year I want to take a 19th century poetry course, latin, etc. Nov. 10, 02 | 01:09 a.m. | Feeling: mwiewoi wah? Tired...oh so tired. I mean, I have given up studying in my room for the rest of the night because my comfy--oh so comfy--bed, mocks my plight. I've spent the last 12+ hours (starting in 11 AM, to 1 PM now) reading, taking notes, thinking up essay ideas for the Faerie Queene and Paradise Lost. FQ's vocab is killing me. I do not know what "wight" and "gan" means in modern english--can anyone help me??! PL's Satan IS pretty cool but...I dunno. Fuuma is cooler. Midterms suck. Especially writing one essay after another, and tests, and weekly quizzes in Shakes and Old Eng. and-- *slaps self* Anyway^^...gotta go and tackle Milton. Nov. 8, 02 | 08:31 p.m. | Feeling: Pissed beyond words I hate my Canadians teacher. It's a sentiment shared by just about everyone I know in that class...errr...like 2 people >_<. She is evil. She is incompetent. She is punishing us because she just got her doctorate and we are only second year hacks. I know I did extremely poorly on this test--the second Canadians test. The first I got a B+ and I was pissed at myself. This time I hope I got a B- and I'll be happy. Standards...whatever! I know I always say that but...well, I'm starting to get to know myself better, and speaking from instinct, I did BAD. However, although everything has gotten so hectic, mentally, I think I'm still okay. *sighs deeply( Oct. 29, 02 | 09:37 p.m. | Feeling: Anxious. Urg...I get my Canadian test back tomorrow. I know I did...BAD. How bad, that is the question. For my Prose class, I'm working on an essay on Defoe's "Shortest Way..." and Swifts' A Tale of a Tub. Okay, when I first read the works, I like Defoe way better than Swift 'cause I thought Swift was wordy and intolerably snobbish. And because I couldn't understand 90% of what he actually wrote^^. However, after a thorough discussion with Dad, in-class discussions and reading the Tale and critical works to death for the past few days, I'm starting to see why the Tub is heralded as one of the most brilliant satires in the English language. And due to the Tub, I'm now really fascinated and entertained by that device, Allegory. I should love to try to write one, but I know I'm too dumb and busy to actually to make the venture. Oct. 27, 02 | 09:09 p.m. | Feeling: Sooo busy I've been so busy with midterm preps. I am going slowly crazy... However, Tori Amos's new CD is coming out on Tuesday, so I'm excited! Oct. 21, 02 | 05:32 p.m. | Feeling: Okay now I didn't realize that I needed to submit a medical certificate saying that I was healthy of mind and body, and thus, the registrar told me I would not be able to continue my courses until I submitted it. Anway, after an intense brouhaha, I got the damned doctor's note in and everything should be fine now. I hate pompous uni administration >:( Oct. 17, 02 | 10:08 p.m. | Feeling: Worn out Today was one of the most disapointing and upsetting days of my life. I'll know by Monday whether my life will be alright or majorly fucked. Damn life's unpredictability! I don't have the life force to worry about the sites right now. Again, if things work out by Monday, I'll start searching for a new host, but if it doesn't, sites will be last thing on my mind. Gotta go! October 14, 02 | 01:21 a.m. | Feeling: winamp crazed So, where the hell have I been? Becoming a freaky winamp obsessor! I've made 3 so far, but I'd like to wait 'til I've made maybe 2 more before I post 'em. If I did it now, there wouldn't be much of a choice, because only one is good^__^;; I've also developped a small crush on Hyde from L'arc en Ciel. This is an excellent shrine. Last week was a killer one in terms of school work. I had a Canadian test that I studied my but off for, but when I had to formulate a thesis, I couldn't come up for one until half way thru the test. Fuuuuck it! Paul, sorry I startled you but you have to admit, it was pretty funny, at least, from this end^^; AMY, I'm going to a Tori concert next month *claps* we'll compare notes! Personally wise, I'm feel good about my life/situation. Sure, I still worry about tests like my life depended on it, and sure, I still have issues about my image (what girl doesn't?) but on the whole, I can't complain. Dad was in town to give a talk so we got to spend, oh, about 3 hours together. It was awesome fun! We talked about my upcoming essays, discussed Spenser, and my plans for grad school. Awww... I am 42% Internet Addict Today started out pooey (couldn't get the front door closed because the weather's so hot and humid, and the wood expanded)...missed 1 class. Got my Willy Shakes test back and contrary to my expectations, I did well. I think I had a series of mini panic attacks on my way to campus. Jeez...I get so convulsively nervous about getting tests back. Oh yeah, get this. I was rudely snubbed by this young man in my Shakes class. I've been called a bitch before, but I think this is the first time someone has actually, blatantly, audaciously snubbed me in the face. Asshole. Meh, I get mad just thinking about it. Oh well...who cares right? I got appointed class rep. by default (no one else wanted to do it XP XP)--and went to the first meeting today. It was cool! I actually met this girl who's a year older and who used to tutor me in calculus--she switched out of sciences just like I did! Amazing...wow. Small world and all that. I'm trying to learn how to make winamp skins from scratch. I find it baffling and hard...I need help ;_; New Enterprise ep tonight--holy, in 20 minutes I mean! October 1, 02 | 11:38 p.m. | Feeling: ready for bed. Ohh...I'm flattered that you think my life is interesting enough to link^_^. Today was a very angsty day for me. In class, I. reveals that he's engaged which made me all the more conscious of my single state. So, that was kinda depressing. And I was one of the last few to finish the quiz, which made me even more depressed. Then I had to deal with prissy credit card 'cause I found that they had signed me up for this "special" (pricey) feature for low interest/air miles without my knowledge or consent. I HATE banks! They're constantly changing their policy, with all these little disclaimers and small texts. NEway, fortunately, I did get the credit card thing resolved. However, the hour or so I spent calling them made it impossible for me to go to fencing *thrash*. I went for a run to punish myself (it was hot and humid and I hate running). To top it all off, I was at the computer typing up my notes for the next 3 hours. Merde merde merde! If it weren't for the dye, no doubt my hair would be white by now. I hope you will have a great day! Amy, I hope you get internet soon! It's been forever ;_; I have decided never to volunteer/or have anything more to do with the Royal Ontario Museum besides my annual membership. The customer service is exremely snobbish, slow and stupid. Boooo. Inversely, I went for my interview with the co-ordinator of the literacy programm thru the TPL (Toronto Public Library), and the woman was really nice, direct and engaging. I'm starting end of month! I think this is an excellent opportunity to "cut my teeth" (so to speak) in teaching. Classes are starting to get busy--a good busy though. I just had a Shakespeare test...gawd...I might've bombed it. I totally got the terms mixed up (anastrophe=repetition of wrds in the beginnng of successive clauses, anaphora=inversed word order...shit). *wail of frustration* After seeing the extremely brutal murder of a 30-y-o lobster on Iron Chef, I am seriously considering becoming a vegetarian. It makes me sick just thinking about the sight. Urgh! I'm so sick of the whole hype about Avril Lavign (sp?). The sad thing about pop stars is that there are so many young girls looking up to them as role models. This is very high-handed of me, but, I simply don't approve of her ethos. How come no one idolizes Roberta Bondar anymore? Umm...oiy, I'm pooped. Better go! PS: New layout! I wanted, for the longest time, to make some sort of a FY layout, and finally I have. The .jpg bled of course, but it's still pretty IMO. |
