fly me to the moon
and let me play among the stars

Saturday, August 30, 2003 03:20 p.m.

just got back from sarah's house...it's only 3pm but i feel like the sun's gonna set any moment now.

woke up at 7am this morning for the inter-class movie review competition thing...
i really wasn't looking forward to it...
was hoping it wouldn't be something as abstract and dull as a beautiful mind or the time machine...
and luckily it didn't.
the movie turned out great in fact...so it was all good. :)
i highly recommend it!
it's called
life is beautiful.
the film is very very touching...i was crying my eyes out by the end of it...
felt quite silly actually, considering the room was well-lit and my reddened face was in full-view of everybody...
charm had watched it for the 3rd time already so she didn't cry as badly...
but i was pretending to be in a fit of sneezes so i don't think anyone else really noticed...haha.
we breaked for a snack after dat...
the teachers had bought curry puffs, pandan cake, brownies and drinks for everyone.
after dat we adjourned to write our movie review in the new ava room within the hr...
and of all things to forget, i forgot to rate the movie.

brilliant.

wrote the review without a conclusive number of stars to ascertain my regard of the film...
i feel so shortchanged! :(
hope it won't affect the marking...
but who am i deceiving...it was in the rubrics.
oh well it's over newae...

to recap yesterday, i shall first post the results of the teachers' day winners.

mr sexy and most spontaneous: mr koh soo keong (he won a black translucent singlet :))
most humorous: ms lye (no idea who she is...i probably got the spelling of her name wrong)
best smile: ms leong choon fah
ms cool and sexiest legs: ms susan lim (she won black stockings!)
most loud and clear: ms oh see moey (undisputed champ)
best hair and make-up: ms nair
best posture: ms cheleen chua
perfectionist: mr geraint wong (he won 2 face masks...)
the funky monkey: mr foo kwee horng (he got a bunch of bananas!)
most stunning eyes: ms angela jacob
ms kawaii: ms elaine lim

a few of the items were pretty good, like the jps' item.
their dance lessons are so much more fun than our's ever were!
what with the stupid twirls and crouches and hand up-downs we had to endure...their's is waaaaay more enjoyable.
stupid poseur china dance teacher...

also, we had lessons and the ever-so-exciting aces day workout...
i think we looked like a contingent of limp and lifeless stick-figues...
but the teachers were enthusiastic though...r.soh looked really cute. :)

after sch, we headed down to sarah's house to slack until the dinner at night...
sarah, tanny, sab, mitch and i sat at table 76 with syl, huiying, jade and yimin.
i think the 65th anniversary was waaaaay better than the 70th...
the food wasn't all dat good...very fusion.
i mean...laksa sauce over codfish?
sharksfin dumplings in curry soup?
and a totally-out-of-place dish of california maki sushi...
dinner was barely passable.

and there weren't many performances.
we left during dessert for maxbrenner's instead, however the shop wasn't open so we settled in starbucks.
after the frappuccinos, we either cabbed home or waited for parents...
everything was moving in slow-mo throughout...i felt so sleepy.
reached home at 1am and quickly washed up before dozing off...

despite the disappointment, it was good to see xiao zhang and a few of my primary sch teachers...:)
they haven't changed at all!
and i finally saw the archbishop father nicholas chia.
he's mentioned in church every wk but i've never known how he looks like...so it's gd being able to associate his name with a face now. :)

wow...this is possibly the most lenthy entry i've ever written.
shall end here. :)

they're like chocolate cake
like cigarettes
i know they're bad for me
but i just can't leave 'em alone

epebbles is driving me crazy!
actually, it's the printer...it never cooperates.
the file just...won't...print! xP

but nvm...there's still tmr's biology test to worry about.

my tuition teacher told me one of the authors of the bio textbk, either lam peng kwan or eric y k lam, was convicted for child molestation a few years back.
coincidentally, a male computer expert who gave courses in our sch when i was in p5, was charged with molesting 2 boys during one of his company's (he's e founder) science camp programmes.
i think that was about 5yrs back.
he's on e run now...and if i remember correctly, he went to the us.
curious, that such geniuses should be so sexually deprived.
and it's especially sick that a biology professor, who knows his stuff, should be commiting these acts!
yuck.

wish i could have their smarts though...
...at least i'll breeze through tmr's bio test that way.

p.s. ahhhh!
my sis has finally got the choosing ur secondary schools book all p6s get...
been waiting for it a loooong time. :)

Ichi
Ichi - "That one with wisdom"

i have a special affinity with pens.

in lower primary, i longed for when i would reach upper primary and begin using blue pens in my hmwk.
black never appealed to me.

by p4, i had strategically planned my pencil case in such a way that would leave room for two explicit ballpoint pens and a coveted bottle of liquid paper (yes, i was thrilled with this accessory too).

once in upper primary, i would quetch within the boundaries of having to use only blue (for written hmwk) and green (corrections).
i longed for when the red pen would be permitted for use on the pages of my hmwk, when teachers demanded for us to mark our own work.

yes, secondary school executed these allowances; but i wasn't satisfied.
with the newly acquired freedom and independence to take a jaunt (or jaunts, for that matter) during after-school hours, i scoured stationery and bookstores with friends in search of the latest, or most unique pens we could lay our hands on.

from pens, we branched out to highlighters, erasers, mechanical pencils - the works; relishing the ingenuity of how the elementary concept of a simplistic mechanism like so, could be forged into something that intricate, yet practical.

and so began my search for a larger pencil case.

at one point, i contemplated a cushion or baby bolster cover.
the largest my pencil case ever got was an A3 file size; absurd, really, considering my sch bag was barely an inch larger than it.

in time, the novelty wore off.
the pencil case bogged me down with its massive weight.

i abandoned the sweet-smelling, the glittery, the multi-functioned pen cum pencil, the incomparable turqoise-y green-ishy blue and other exotic hues of pens entirely to my room - where they gathered dust.

inks dried up.
caps almost grew onto the pens, like roots entombing themselves deep into the foreboding ground below.

those fantastical pens that once gave elaborate workmanship in my notes and autograph books were, themselves, no more than idle tubes of coloured liquid.
only the bare essentials of blue and red gel pens, mechanical pencils in 0.3mm, 0.5mm and 0.7mm, and necessities such as the ruler and liquid paper sustained a place in my newly-shrunk pencil case.
the occasional few lighter-hued pens in their vibrant shades paired with my set of highlighters - if only to add humour and interest to my notes.
but no more was seen of the rest of the brilliant ensemble.

i write this on account of the loss of my favourite pink pen.

i bought it back when i was in p5; the first of my many pilot g-tec c4 pens.
it had the smallest nib available then - a delicate 0.4mm wide.
throughout all my fickle changes of pencil cases, this one pen stayed diligently in there.

it was the perfect shade of pink - neither too glaring nor too pale.
it had a continuous flow to it - with my every stroke executed in a smooth glide.
the ink catridge was perpetually full - for never did i have to worry about the ink running out.

it wrote the christmas and birthday cards to my crush; its ink was always seen in my exam notes; it left its mark in every autograph book i embellished; and it penned my many journal entries.

yes, it was the quintessential pen.

unfortunately, this pink pilot g-tec c4 failed me in time.
the once sturdy cap had displaced its partner, for the grooves on the pen had seemingly worn down due to incessant use.
with the cap gone, its ink had finally dried out.
upon shaking it a couple of times, i accidentally dropped it on the floor - nib down.

with the nib broke; ink dried; cap lost, i had to reluctantly pick the other new pilot g-tec c4 pink pen - the one for emergency use.

my classic pink pen now lays buried in the victorian hatbox where i keep my cherished letters, photos and keepsakes.
if i were to one day happen to take out this gem - may it be that i remember it as the source of inspiration to this passage - and the pen that made me fall in love with pink all over again.

*i write poems or lame-o passages like these out of nowhere whenever i'm bored...got loads more files in my folders! :)

just updated the profile section...the link's there by the side.
i accidentally archived the entire lot of past entries too...
better type something to fill 'er up.

met up with denise today!
we went shopping...:)
dad dropped me at the esplanade where i bought a red pair of earrings...
den got the pink ones...
following that, we had lunch at maxbrenner's.
i think the esplanade is the place to be at if u wanna spot tv stars from chnn5...
saw abt 4 of them out on dates...amy cheng was dating this black guy.
she looked so pretty!
newae, we headed down to suntec, takashimaya, zara, then wisma...where i got a red pair of kenneth cole shoes.
they're very mary-jane, old-school, preppy-ish...cute! :)
cost me a bomb though...so we scrimped the rest of the way.
headed down to forum the shopping mall...tried to blend in with the taitais over there...xP
oh, do try this restaurant there called healthy planet.
they make brown rice...wholemeal bread and boring fruit juices taste oh-so-good!
it's super-nutritious too...
most of their ingredients are organic, apparently, according to the waitresses over there.
the place is so hygienic and organic-ish, even the staff and chefs are decked out in white nurse uniforms...but they're not intimidating at all. :)
it's really easy to chat them up...
with den and her motor mouth...haha.
after a heavy meal, we then dragged ourselves to borders for a leisurely 2hours of reading.

i was dead beat by then...
we just buried ourselves in books over at the kid's section...whew.
but it was all in good measure...:)
