someone is speaking
but he doesn't know she's there

Sunday, August 24, 2003 09:07 p.m.

hello davina. back again?
gawd that must have shocked. :)

newae, i ripped this off part of ping's quiz...
i love doing the either/or sections...they're the most fun...blows my socks off! :)

1. Music or TV: mtv!
2. Guys or Girls: girls!
3. Green or Blue: green
4. Pink or Purple: purple...actually, pink. okae, both!
5. Summer or Winter: summer...i love warm weather.
6. Night or Day: night
7. Hangin Out or Chillin: hanging out
8. Dopey or Funny: funny
9. Do you like Funny or Scary movies better? funny, definitely.
10. On the phone or in person? in person
11. Hugs or kisses? both!
12. Would you rather be Rich or Famous? rich, definitely.
13. Which came first, the Chicken or the Egg: i think it's the egg! cos if there was only one chicken present, it wouldn't be laying fertilised eggs. there needs to be the male to fertilise it first! and so i conclude that the fertilised egg came first; either that or two chickens of different sexes. :)
14. Root Beer or Dr. Pepper: root beer.
15. Vanilla or Chocolate: i love chocolate :) but i prefer vanilla in my coffee bean drinks, hello panda biscuits, etc...
16. Love or Lust: love!
17. Silver or Gold: silver, definitely.
18. Sleep on your back, stomach or side: side, with my arms above my head and around the bolster.
19. Adidas, Nike, or Reeboks? adidas
20. Croutons or Bacon Bits: bacon bits! just like how they prepare the bloody caesar salad at bloodcafe.
21. 2 Doors or 4 (on a Car)? hmmmx...both are fine.
22. Bridges or Tunnels: bridges.
23. One Pillow or Two: two...or three.
24. Salt or Butter flavoured popcorn?: butter! i love the flavour of butter...:)
25. Fizzy or Still water? still! i've avoided fizzy water ever since drinking the one at lawry's...
26. Red wine or White wine?: white wine...sweeter! :)
27. Mickey D's (McDonalds) or BK (Burger King): burger king...love the chicken tenders.
28. chocolate or white milk: chocolate. but i like getting the milk moustache with white milk...
29. CD or tape: cds
30. Cake or Pie: my fave desserts! i love both...esp tiramisu cake and blueberry or apple pie.
31. Cats or Dogs: dogs! i'm afraid of cats...
32. Mud or Jello Wrestling? jello! sticky, sweet and slippery...:)
33. Skiing or Boarding? hmmmx...i would say skiing.
34. Sunset or Sunrise: sunset!
35. Diamonds or Pearls: diamonds glitter...hence my choice!

and now u know.

Saturday, August 23, 2003 11:59 p.m.

i have met, possibly, the most unpleasant girl in st nicks...
and that is an understatement.

i never intended to rant out in the open or anything...
but she really grates my nerves.

her annoying hum-drum of a voice rattles off every recess from tables away...even across the vast span of our canteen.
she looks at things from behind her tinted glass wall and expects everyone to oblige her every whim and fancy.
wake up and smell the roses - cliche but true - the world does not revolve around u.

u think dozens of people visit ur webpage?
think again.

i wear what i want, buy what i want, use what i want
and u have not a sliver of right to bar from anything.

but i must say, u do have some sense of self-worth. branding urself petty, unreasonable and obnoxious?
they're most apt, though a little restrained from the more fitting words of absurd, arrogant and small-minded.

but being the ignoramus u are, i do not blame u for ur cecity.
continue wallowing in ur self-delusions of graduer and they just might come true.
and that includes ur claim of being good in dance - sheesh.
i'd kill to see u perform.

and fyi, my name's spelt karina.

Saturday, August 23, 2003 10:47 p.m.

the sims is a seriously addictive game.
spent hours playing it on sab's computer earlier today...
at first i thought i could resist...
it is just another one of those cheap-thrill, waste-your-time games afterall...
but no.
with all those cheat codes and millions of things to buy...
it's like retail therapy, only cheaper and better!
ahhh...i'm gonna get it no matter what. :)

p.s. :: my digicam's getting fixed...and then i'll upload the ndp album! :)

Friday, August 22, 2003 01:01 p.m.

having lessons in the comp lab again...
i can hear lotsa clicking sounds...
are pple actually doing their essay summaries or blogging and chatting?
hmmmx...newae, we've got that silly acting workshop thingie later.
frankly, i doubt it'll serve its purpose...
hopefully things will work out and the sec 3s won't get too bored...
after that, i'm planning get my haircut at united square while mitch and sarah have tuition...
i love going to the salon!
haha...all that excess baggage gone. :)

*louisa! :: persistence prevails when all else fails!

Wednesday, August 20, 2003 09:50 p.m.

the league of extraordinary gentlemen is not a bad movie...actually, it was pretty damn good!
do watch it...:)
and swei!
if my pinch-bruise turns into another blue-black again, u'd better watch out!
i will buy u beard papa and famous amos no-nut chocolate chip and the one-foot long apple strudel and a coffee bean regular pure chocolate and zooland biscuits to make u fat! :)
muahahaha...plus!
i will make a wish to get ur period to last for a whole month!
that way u cannot run...hehe.
oh, and to everyone else...go download this song. nice!

angels or devils
by dishwalla

this is the last time
that i'm ever gonna come here tonight
this is the last time i will fall
into a place that fails us all inside

and i can see the pain in you
and i can see the love in you
but fighting all the demons will take time
it will take time

the angels they burn inside for us
and are we ever
are we ever gonna learn to fly
the devils they burn inside of us
and are we ever gonna come back down
come around
i'm always gonna worry about the things that could make us cold

this is the last time
that i'm ever gonna give in tonight
are there angels or devils crawling here?
i just want to know what blurs and what is clear to see

well i can see the pain in you
and i can see the love in you
and fighting all the demons will take time
it will take time

the angels they burn inside for us
and are we ever
are we ever gonna learn to fly
the devils they burn inside of us
and are we ever gonna come back down - come around
i'm always gonna worry about the things that could break us

if i were to give in - give it up - and then
take a breath - make it deep
cause it might be the last one you get
be the last one
it could make us cold
you know that they could make us cold

i'm always gonna worry about the things that could make us cold

Monday, August 18, 2003 12:15 p.m.

Sunday, August 17, 2003 10:00 p.m.

family's watching the nd rally speech now...
i realise we watch alot of television...bunch of tv addicts.
everytime i begin my entry, someone's watching one show or another...hmmmx.
newae, father brian spoke to us about the holy orders during catechism today...that is the sacrament of ordination, the pathway to becoming a priest.
his gaze fell mainly on the guys, since they're the potentials...
i never realised all priests have a degree in theology...it's so cool! no wonder they all seem so learned and philosophical in their preachings...

after mass, dad brought us downtown to shop a little.
we ate at crystal jade..and my dad got pretty irritated with the service.
they missed our number and let people who came after us enter the restaurant 1st...despite us having waited for 45mins.
inside, the waitress took wrong orders, and made a mistake in telling my mum her porridge was century egg instead of chicken and mushroom...
after a lot of mix-ups with the dim sum too, we finally settled down.
i guess they were too occupied with so many tables to attend to...but the food was good anyhow. :)
did a lot of walking after the heavy meal and we bought loads of stuff!
i got my guess jeans, marks and spencer undies, and books from kinokuniya.
i even got the
cliff notes for the outsiders to have a better understanding of the book...cos i love that story so damn much!
it's one of the only novels to have made me cry...:)
coincidentally, i've just noticed that sylvia plath and virginia woolf, 2 authors whose books i've bought today, commited suicide.
quite unnerving, really...
going off to read the bell jar and pig out on my M&S viennese chocolate sandwich biscuits now! :)

Saturday, August 16, 2003 11:55 p.m.

tired tired tired. woke up early to a roll of thunder and the downpour of the month.
but i love rain so it was pleasant. :)
quickly changed into my sch uniform and went down to rgps to pick my sister up after her psle eng oral. dad drove us to rgs after that for my sister to attend their openhouse.
i had to leave earlier for flag day at noon.
met swei, chow and tanny at orchard to collect donations!
we stood outside paragon mainly. after half an hour of rejection, we left for heeren to have lunch.
there was this singapore sports council thingie going on outside heeren...a survey of some sort. after filling it out, we went up to take neoprints. the machine broke down on us...of all pple! met up with meiyan for awhile. oh yes, and thanks to jinghang for sending the flag day bag to toa payoh for us. :)
wahh...i really ate alot today.
smoothie. beard papa. sambal stingray @ marche. mango juice. swei's leftover wedges :). coffee bean pure vanilla. 3 styxs @ kai kushi.
tskČ...nvm. eat drink and be merry today...for i diet tmr!
sarah and sab came down in the evening for dinner...we walked and shopped instead. sarah and i bought a pair of comfy toss pants, and i found heels at m)phosis!
retail therapy is blisssss. :)
we settled at borders after dinner and read magazines till 10++...then sarah and i took the train and i just got home. whew. dead beat!
i look forward to church tmr...:)

*charm! :: i propose we bring forward the manicure/pedicure date! this may sound really bimbotic but i broke a nail while trying on a pair of jeans today. yes, my thumb nail. the one prone to injuries (netball). so let's make a date! :)

Phenomenal Woman
by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a model's fashion size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my steps
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please
And to a man
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees.
I say
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth
The swing of my waist
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say
It's in the click of my heels
The bend of my hair
The palm of my hand
The need for my care.
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Friday, August 15, 2003 10:58 p.m.

i took my toughest ever common test today.
i don't know if it was the fact that i didn't study or because the paper was plain difficult, but i'm bent on the latter.
i stoned at the paper for 5mins upon getting it! there were all these terms that i didn't understand and everything seemed uncannily like an amath paper to me...it was chemistry btw.
silly mole concept and redox reactions...
i just ended up finding the number of moles to every substance in sight and leaving it at that.
thankfully there were people who actually knew what they were doing in the back row...or i'd probably be anticipating a big fat zero right now. xP

my parents are watching this pirated vcd of the movie The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemem and my sis is watching the Children of Heaven show we taped down...i wanna watch both!
but i can't decide which one to watch 1st...so i'm saving them for one day when i can stay at home and stuff myself with food and couch-potato myself into the taf club.
sounds like a plan.

Thursday, August 14, 2003 10:15 p.m.

my parents are watching 'ways of the matriarch' now...
it's this peranakan cookery show that depicts a family of nonyas and babas up to their antics...
as usual, dad's going on abt how unhealthy the dishes are...and teasingly dissing my mum's culture.
while mum's busy calling my grandma up to remind her to watch the show...then speedily copying the recipes down when she knows i'm going to be helping her print the recipes from the
central website anyway.
sheesh...no trust at all.

Wednesday, August 13, 2003 11:04 p.m.

finally a layout that screams ME! :)

Tuesday, August 12, 2003 10:13 p.m.

mr foo took us to the singapore art museum on an excursion with the art class today...
the works were brilliant! those aep students are really talented...they have so many ideas and the God-given ability to create them! damn they're so gifted...
i especially love the 'obsession' and 'homage to a circle' paintings by an ijtp and tch student respectively...they were beautiful acrylic paintings.
i was thinking..boy would it be cool to have my artwork displayed in the art museum...like wow.
i could just immerse myself in sweet dreams and delude myself forever. ahhh...

Tuesday, August 12, 2003 12:09 a.m.

i insist everyone check this webpage out! if it doesn't get u off excessive dieting, at the very least, i hope it boosts ur ego. :)

Monday, August 11, 2003 10:52 p.m.

i think this one's so sweet and simple...love the embroidery! very exquisite...

i love this outfit! so smart casual! reese witherspoon looks so darn gd in it...futhermore she's pregnant in this photo. tres chic! :)

one of the most beautiful dresses i've seen in my whole entire life! it's so elegant! love e design...haha. halle berry's just so flawless...:)

Monday, August 11, 2003 10:41 p.m.

i dissected a heart today!
okae...so maybe i didn't do it. i don't even dare to touch raw meat during home econs...
brave lynette probed, groped and poked the pig's heart like it was a soft toy!
eeks...charm, janice and i were just squealing away by the side...yuck! everyone was manhandling their hearts (u know what i mean) with such gore...oh the dripping blood!
and it stank and reeked!
good thing it wasn't the liver or anything more putrid...but i'm do look fwd to dissecting a frog next, if only to see the pumping heart...:)

Sunday, August 10, 2003 05:32 p.m.

ripped this off the ndp mag that came in the goodie bag:

38 traits of a true-blue singaporean

1. tks 2 SMS, u oso dunno how 2 spel nemore.
2. at lunch, u start discussing what to eat for dinner.
3. when speaking to foreigners, u somehow feel the need to adopt an accent.
4. u're forever talking about businesses u want to set up but will probably never get around to starting.
5. u don't know many of the people attending ur wedding.
6. u separate foods into 2 basic groups: 'heaty', and 'cooling'.
7. u marry for the real estate breaks.
8. u move to where u want ur child to go to school.
9. u force ur children to take speech and drama classes, but pray they won't wind up in the Arts stream later on.
10. u suddenly realise u're very interested in biotech - just like u suddenly realised 3 yrs ago that u were very interested in e-commerce, and before that, engineering, medicine, law...
11. u think people are inconsiderate when they don't leave their table immediately after eating at the food court, but think u have every right to take 25 bites to finish the last red bean in ur ice kachang.
12. u think being an entrepreneur is setting up a bubble tea/gao luck/porridge shop right next to an existing bubble tea/ gao luck/porridge shop.
13. if u're a guy, whenever u get together with ur guy friends, u invariably trade army stories.
14. if u're a girl, whenever u get together with ur girl friends, u invariably trade stories about how ur stupid guy friends are forever trading army stories.
15. u think the most important sporting event this yr was beckham switching from manchester united to real madrid.
16. u've eaten more times at the esplanade than u've actually seen shows there.
17. u need campaigns to tell u how to be courteous, to flush toilets, have sex...
18. u meet in hotels a lot.
19. ur children have a rudimentary knowledge of tagalog or bahasa indonesia.
20. u work at macdonalds when u're old rather than young.
21. u'll gladly spend $70,000 on a car, but will go to great lengths to save a few bucks on ERP charges or even a few cents on a parking coupon.
22. if u're pregnant, u have the strange ability to make people on the MRT fall sleep instantly.
23. u ask for the bill miming a signing movement.
24. u've started referring to foreign employees as 'talent' instead of 'expatriates'.
25. u copy down the liscense plate numbers of cars involved in accidents.
26. u think ur boyfriend doesn't love u unless he gives u part of his liver.
27. during sales, u book hotel rooms near malls to enable u to shop more efficiently.
28. when u explain thing to people, i keep (a) using alphabets, and (b) speaking in point form.
29. u believe that u can generate 'creativity' through rules and commitees.
30. u're very forthright with ur criticisms of the Gahmen, unless there's a chance they might actually hear u.
31. u diligently track the whereabouts of ur favourite hawkers, i.e. u know that the famous tiong bahru bao is now in jurong, the famous outram char kway teow is now in hong kong centre etc...
32. ur mother probably can't speak ur 'mother tongue'.
33. u secretly find that the best part of the 'speak good english movement' is hearing the singlish bits in their ads.
34. u have an automatic sensor in ur head which categorises people u meet into cosmopolitan/heartlander, normal/express/gifted, etc...
35. u wish ur constituency is in a 'walkover' ward, because otherwise it's damn 'leceh'.
36. during elections, u decide that there is no credible opposition even though u don't know the name of the opposition candidate in ur constituency.
37. u think constituency is like the condition u get when u don't eat enough fibre.
38. u're never completely sure how many times u're singing the 2nd verse of the National Anthem.

i thought some of them were really funny and struck a heartstring...i literally laughed out loud. haha...

Sunday, August 10, 2003 04:47 p.m.

national day was extra special this yr.
the sch celebrations were undoubtedly boring though...except mr koh was really sporting during his class' assembly item. if only r.soh was as spontaneous...
there was this meeting for forum theatre that took 2hrs off our half-day dismissal...what a waste of time. when we finally got let off at noon, we went downtown for lunch at crystal jade...their la mian is goooood.
after, we headed for cine to watch homerun...it's quite sad, really...but not fantastic. do watch e majid original on central at 10pm wed...it's gonna be gd. :)

yesterday was one of my most memorable national days i presume.
after math tuition, i met up with swei, chow, charm, lynnette, eve (nette's sis), tanny and later dinah for lunch...we went to nooch and i had the thai fried rice noodle + prawn order again...it was so darn filling! whew.
after that we took neos...i pressed the wrong button halfway through decorating and we were brought to e 'choose format' page, and couldn't return...i felt so bad! ahahahha...so then we took another set of neos, and accidentally chose the wrong format. tskČ...but at least e pictures looked gd. after tanny and i took a neocard together, we rushed to grab a drink at coffee bean (pure vanilla so rocks) before taking e mrt down...
i'd never seen so many pple in red in my whole entire life!
too bad e digicam screwed up at that moment and i couldn't photograph anything...we took many shots on swei's cam though. i'll get down to creating the album once my cam's repaired...
the fireworks were by far the best! we were given transparent umbrellas to use overhead, though i didn't see them as serving much of a purpose. the display was spectacular!
oh and there was this cute soldier sitting behind charlene...he's quite sweet too. the only soldier who told charm she could take e umbrella home...all e others insisted we give them back.
after that we went down to suntec for supper...got home at 11. was dead beat.
i must i must i must go for ndp again next yr...if only to see my commando, yarx charlene? :)

Sunday, August 10, 2003 01:46 a.m.

happy birthday singapore! :)

Thursday, August 7, 2003 10:12 p.m.

yes, reading my blog comes with its benefits. click here to retrieve your free gift (courtesy of keri smith). just enlarge it to whatever size u wish, print, cut, and voila! :) have fun!

Wednesday, August 6, 2003 07:28 p.m.

omg, u must hear abt monday, totally mortifying...
1st we had a make-up lesson of math tuition...then sab and i decided to grab a drink at e nearby cold storage...
after getting our drinks (aloev!) there was this lady infront of us at e counter who was buying this huge trolley of things...after she left, e counter guy scanned our drinks and told us to pay about 80 bucks...i was like !@#$%&* dat's absurd!! we were totally shocked!!
apparently e woman had not paid for her groceries and she was charging e bill to US!! e guy kept insisting we could either pay or get e woman back...but she obviously ran off...
so then i told sab we should make a run for it, and we left our drinks behind, immediately dashing out...and of all things, i TRIPPED!! felt damn stupid man...then this fat security guard came running up and grabbing me...then he was like pulling my leg...
just like how i'm pulling your leg now. :)

Monday, August 4, 2003 10:05 p.m.

this goes out to the taiČ wannabes...janice, swei, chow, charmaine and carolyn: we can do it! :)

Sunday, August 3, 2003 08:53 p.m.

today was really tiring.
met chow at the bus stop today!
after mass, i took the train down to orchard for lunch with mitch and sab.
we visited amanda at kai kushi in cine...she was sure a good waiter/waitress! haha...even though we made some unreasonable demands. hmmx...after dat we walked around and shopped a little...and now i'm home.
thanks for treating us to the mineral water phoon...:)

Sunday, August 3, 2003 12:58 a.m.

wow! as this is my 1st time blogging, i shall start off by thanking a few pple.
thanks ad, jan, chow and swei for helping me with the layout and ideas and everything. i know a bit of html now! :)

also to tiff, chow, tanny, tricia, dinah, grace, genevieve, and especially swei for your yummy jar of cookies: a big thankyou!

i expect fluidfusion was a success. didn't hear anyone complaining abt it...it was great fun too! the make-up was quite bad though...took me hours to get it off. it was like a mask!
dad dropped sab, tanny, chow and grace off before we reached home last night...i was dead beat! whew.
