hope you liked the morning surprise.
being in a chocolate shop on the eve of valentine's day is some hilarious shit;
i don't think i've had to muffle my giggles so badly since leaving the classroom (everyone used to laugh at teachers, right?)
with some guys, you inevitably think 'that's one lucky girl he's going home to'.
with others you just want to spank them and ring their girlfriends up to yell 'dump this guy, pronto!'
today i learnt that japanese customs call for the girl to give chocolates to the guy on valentine's day, so when ladies walk in i kinda brace myself for a communication breakdown.
i also realised that japanese girlfriends are generally hotstuff;
i mean seriously, i couldn't stop staring at how pretty most of them looked.
my favourite customer of the day was this old caucasian man who bought sugar-free chocolates for his diabetic wife and took a lot of care to make sure the package looked pretty;
so sweet, seriously, like a scene straight out of the notebook (hi tanny, your favourite show).
coming in a close second was this indian guy who called from california and requested for a box delivered to his 'good female friend' in singapore.
it was roughly 4am california time (and he might've been up working) but it was heartwarming all the same.
but sweet guys aside, the most entertaining ones are those already married, because it becomes more of an obligation to buy chocolates and it's hilarious watching them try to recall what their wives like or hide the boxes in their suitcases (we have a stash of random plastic bags from 7-11 and jason's supermarket for the many customers who request for something to make their purchases inconspicuous) - awesome funny.
let's not get started on the gay couples though...
they're such darlings really, except when they get all neurotic on me - "burgundy, honey, not the red ribbon. don't want the box looking too dong dong qiang."
so this is class reunion 2007, a compare and contrast from 2003.
i'd say most of us look the same. :)

down with tonsillitis and an accompanying fever, i spent my day watching factory girl,
i once did an art assignment on andy warhol in secondary school and came across edie sedgwick as part of my research;
factory girl piqued my interest again - you really can't resist a tragic story like this.
the video's playing after hours by the velvet underground.
what i'd really like is a long holiday abroad but that'll only come from april onwards;
for now i'm going to treasure whatever time i have left in the shop.
definitely gonna miss it a whole lot. :(

left my handphone in the shop, today of all days.
first thing i'm going to do tomorrow is to memorise the important numbers;
my receding brain needs a workout anyway!
shopped for farewell presents after work and i've planned a whole list of things to get for my boss and supervisor all the way to our florist and the cleaners in the building.
spent a quarter of my pay on gifts but it feels gooood!

we went past all of chinatown's cny bazaar stalls and my favourite sarsi sweet is officially sold out - bummerrr.
to end off the day, supper was a bowl of egg beancurd at chompchomp, but my dear chinchow aunty wasn't in today. :(
endnote: i'll be closing this place down indefinitely - probably until i've something more substantial to write about - which is hopefully when i go to hongkong in april and newyork in june.
in the meantime i'll have to busy myself earning shopping money for aforementioned trips, fretting about the 'a' level results, contemplating my future (seriously...) and building stronger bonds before friendships are put to the test due to geographical differences (absence makes the heart wander - #1 example janicetansiewhong - but you know i'm kidding).

coming from the queen of inertia herself, this limbo we're in right now is just about the worst place for someone with a wild imagination, simply because i hate not knowing.
i feel neither here nor there, doing neither this nor that.
these 3 months have been like a dream - neither good nor bad but one where i'm mostly indifferent, working through the motions but never really immersing myself fully and being utterly distracted from everything whether at work or in conversation.
i'm sorry if i haven't been focussing;
that would require a peace of mind which eludes me right now.

i bought the miu miu coffer bag;
kinda feels like i shot myself in the foot when i think about it but then again i'm taking it as an investment (with its stable re-sale value) so i hope that eases my conscience a little.
also bought a few pieces of maharishi clothing from the sales rack at blackjack...
and now i'm down to my pennies.
my favourite buy from yesterday. :)

also, charm and i attended hossan leong's stand-up comedy at the drama centre last night and i literally laughed till i cried;
support local talent!
today saw us trawling through haji lane and eating our way from ice monster to thomson's bak chor mee stall.
playing poker at pluck and icebox.
i just realised that janice isn't in any of the shots so here's one from my archives!
inane post, but it's an update all the same. :)
back to work tomorrow, yay!
