this has got to be the coolest shit for anyone going to paris, new york or varanasi (boey kim cheng's hangout yo);
soundwalk offers audio tours in mp3 format taking you on guided tours around the neighbourhoods of your choice - there are audio samples available on the website.

you don't even have to visit these cities to enjoy the audio tracks;
i personally listen to the paris one for lou doillon's narration (she's one of my favourite french actresses), the accompaniment music by sir alice and the sounds of paris.
i've bought paris: pigalle and manhattan: nolita so far - love the narration, love the music even more!

we went down to support the girls in one of the most exciting matches yesterday;
the semi-finals against rjc was so scary to watch and i probably gripped meifang and feijuan's hands and shoulders about a hundred million times throughout the game.
but they won, so it's on to the finals. :)

Sunday, May 13, 2007 12:43 a.m.

1. watched 'the wind that shakes the barley' which was good although it's a pity my knowledge of history is so dismal - what i know about the anglo-irish war is limited to wikipedia!
hmm, i chose geography over history in school so it's really my own doing haha.

2. bought the concretes' album.
and a pair of a.p.c. dungarees, woods&woods shorts and an a.p.c. men's shirt;
i really want to live along annsiang road.

3. dinner at les bouchons;
i think i might make it my life mission to try as many different versions of creme brulee as possible.
i've covered lemon, matcha, vanilla, cinnamon...
today's was grand marnier!

4. come on, it's fun to make a list of things you've enjoyed, disregarding the frivolity of it.

Saturday, May 12, 2007 01:18 a.m.

the laptop has got to be my favourite invention of the moment.
also, i daresay Microsoft Vista Business trumps Mac OS X Tiger any day!

buying a computer or any gadget for that matter is like reading a magazine;
no matter how thoroughly you peruse it, how ever many times you go over each page, there's always a tiny blurb or piece of information that you've overlooked or missed entirely.
similarly, you can scour the whole of sim lim square, do online research on hardware pricelists and read dozens of reviews and internet forums, but still feel shortchanged with the purchase made.

back to what i was getting at -
i'm finally purchasing the sony vaio
sz-series in the coming weekend and i've more or less tracked down the shop which i think offers the best deal - but who's to know right?
sony products are notoriously price-controlled and sim lim square is largely a monopoly under the guise of being monopolistic competitive;
being subject to ruthless profiteering is inevitable unless you're a salesman in the industry.
incidentally, i don't know if i prefer homogeneous prices (like apple, disregarding exchange rates) or knowing for a fact that i could purchase a gadget for less if i looked hard enough.
haha, food for thought...

so after watching a whole slew of depressing movies like sophie scholl, the virgin suicides, hannibal, the constant gardener etc. where everyone dies, i decided to mix it up with some woody allen comedy ie. scoop and matchpoint.
both had really funny scripts and weren't dour for the most part but alas, ended with my favourite characters dying very abruptly.

anyhow, i've come to the general consensus that good movies, and especially those which have been highly-acclaimed, rarely end on happy terms - but why?
is it only tragedy that strikes a chord with people?
can't films with happy endings also explore deep thematic content as catastrophes do?

in other news, while at antipodean today, tricia (she's in her early 20s and already owns the 3-year-old boutique in holland village - life is unfair) made me a colour copy of a very detailed map of new york city.
it reminds me of harry potter's secret map without the obvious magical aspect - every single shop is labelled!
i thought it was very nice of her considering we used to browse her shop as penniless students in uniform back when we were at malan road.
ever since working at teuscher, i've realised that customers who browse too much can get pretty annoying. :D

and if you'd 'a took to me like
a gull takes to the wind
well i'd 'a jumped from my tree
and i'd a danced like the kind of the eyesores
and the rest of our lives would 'a fared well

the juniors are all so cute i can't decide who's best;
there's mellie's wonderwall defense, speedy gonzales hitomi, nut's beautiful reverse hits, glad being her blur-cute self, the perennial favourite polly pocket and this girl named carolyn who i think looks super cool on the pitch.

okay we're more than voyeurs - went down to support the girls against acjc today and all of us felt that they played well.
we had ball possession about 75% of the game but it was really hard luck not being able to score.
oh well, they drew and are into the semi-finals. :)

again, the group of us had dinner and a long chat at serene centre.

i don't understand why other teams don't seem to think we deserve our achievements or that it has been wrongly taken from them;
mr soh trains the girls hard (i doubt other teams have had to run 6.4km - the distance from sajc to bishan park and back - or climb flights of stairs in random hdb blocks and multi-storey carparks) and we're disciplined (like having to reach ccab or delta an hour before pitch time, not strolling in just 5 mins before like i've seen a certain team do) and we're close-knit, no politics or bitching of any teammate (even i know about the intra-team bitching in other schools).
haha okay i'm dropping it.

i love this song.

i know a time is coming
all words will lose their meaning
please show me something that isn't mine
but mine is the only kind that i relate to
le miroir casse
the mirror casts mon reflet partour
black mirror, black mirror, black mirror

the black mirror knows no reflection
it knows not pride or vanity
it cares not about your dreams
it cares not for your pyramid schemes
their names are never spoken
the curse is never broken

two, four, six, eight,
who do we appreciate;

hi sarah, missing you (pun pun).

Monday, May 7, 2007 01:16 a.m.

i came dangerously close to buying this today.

i understand how it may not be love-at-first-sight for some but i like how it's cropped (short torso sigh) with a mandarin collar and that the material isn't heavy (spring/summer collection) but looks it.
furthermore it fit really well and aside from the too-long sleeves - agnes b. provides free alterations - i really truly love it.
the salesperson was great, like the perfect male shopping buddy without any effeminate theatrics.
the jacket's quite mao-zedong-ish in the photo but i swear it looks much better worn.

today's shopping yielded a pair of
london sole ballet flats, 2 tops from burgundy at palais renaissance while visiting su and this book (do read it!) - i hadn't shopped in a while before this.

got to start saving money from now on;
starting with seeking out a job for when july comes.

Sunday, May 6, 2007 11:43 p.m.

i like how hockey outings don't require planning or much thought;
just set aside the time and things come naturally.

being nicely entertained at island creamery.

church, a whitebait&kale lunch and spiderman3 today;
i was expecting to cry during the film but didn't!
a little anticlimatic...

yesterday was one of the weirdest sit-down-and-talk days but thank god for mitchel and weiyan;
they're so different they complement, yet having them together is both tiring and comforting, tu comprends?

in other news, i'm so sick of university talk.
i don't believe there are no other conversation topics of equal relevance to 19-year-olds these days (and the army isn't counted).

the good.
my body clock is back to normal thanks to ebay which inspires a healthy 10am wake-up time in order for me to ascertain winning bids up till the closing minutes on much-coveted items.

the bad.
obvious damage on credit card ringing up invisible dollars.

the good.
Dear Parsons - Session I Student:
We are pleased to inform you that your housing application has been processed for Parsons' Summer Program - Session I. You will be housed at the 13th Street Residence Hall, located at 118 West 13th Street between 6th/7th Avenues.
(mich, are we in the same building?)

the bad.
i won't be around for
this.
bummerrr.

the good.

tourists swarm to see your face
confuscius has a puzzling grace
disorientated you enter in
unleashing scent of wild jasmine

slanted eyes meet a new sunrise
a race of bodies small in size
chicken chow mein and chop suey
hong kong garden takeaway
hong kong garden
- siouxsie and the banshees

the bad.
i don't think i could ever pull off that haircut, darn.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 04:34 a.m.

my dad and sis are up watching liverpool!
oh man, i love it when the family's awake at odd hours.

so i'm finally 19 and that's quite elderly if you think about it;
one more year and i'll lose my "but i'm a teenager" argument when kids call me aunty.

so at the stroke of midnight, first thing i saw was sarah's msn window displaying a horrible photo of me and the words 'i love you' at the bottom.
next thing i know it's the annual birthday conference call and five voices fighting to speak over the other. :D

early morning i received an sms from my classmates to wear the most colourful outfit i have, so i whipped out my cheapo 24 dollar flea market dress only to find that it matches weiyan's outfit.
seriously...
haha anyway we whizzed down to this beautiful cafe by the singapore river for breakfast.

ricciotti at 9am.

stoned at the ungodly hour.

the food was awesome, no kidding.
we ordered round after round!

my favourite photo of us;
it's taken off a poloroid for that sepia effect.

cabbed down to suntec city right after to catch the open-top hippo bus.

we are not morning people...

my lilies! so pretty!
we dropped off at the botanic gardens initially to play twister and fly our kite but ended up sitting at a cafe to chat the afternoon away.
i'd sit and slack all day if i could...

charmaine, janice and charlene joined the rest of us for dinner at vivocity and supper in the evening.
i didn't get any photos of them though, bummer.

we ate at a french restaurant:
red wine, foie gras, blue cheese, goat's cheese, smoked salmon, tuna tartine, creme brulee...
i bet everyone walked out with bad breath. :)

charlene made this for me!
how cute is it.
the group of us talked and played cards at a hongkong street cafe until 3 in the morning, ending the day with university postings from nus and ntu.

thank you sab, mich, tanny, tricia, charm, jan, chow, jiaying, weiyan, mal, cheryl, jo and sarah (in spirit!) for spending the day with me;
i've already said all that i wanted to say to you girls.
really appreciate all the messages and wishes from everyone else too. :)

when you are young the world is a ferris wheel
i know we will grow old it is lovely, still
make a plan to love me sometime soon

- bright eyes

when a guy tells me i'm cute, it's not something desirable. cute is more like what you want your pet to be.
