moderator Jim Lehrer: New question; two minutes, Senator Kerry.
"Colossal misjudgments" - what colossal misjudgments, in your opinion, has President Bush made in these areas?
senator John Kerry: (chuckles) Well, where do you want me to begin?
(laughter all around)

the school has forewarned us about the huge amount of crying that's going to be inevitable next week.
this can only mean one thing - that we've done disastrously.
jitters jitters.

and i majorly screwed my lectoring today, with mishaps including walking into the altar and causing my mass booklet to fly off the chair and down the altar onto the floor.
wonderful.

and i've been stuffing myself with so much yoghurt the past few days...
from new zealand natural to yami yoghurt to any kiosk that i chance upon.
i missed it so bad.
at least i've now had my dose of YES (yoghurt + eating + shopping), which already equates to a very fulfilled me. :)

oh and i've fledged a full-out war with the coffee connoisseur.
maybe it's just me, but i think their service sucks, the waiters are so not in-the-know, and the menu is way over-priced.
hah.
this is exactly like my waging war against orange julius, which i've sworn off ever since they started serving watery smoothies.
tsk tsk.
you know i really shouldn't be taking these things so seriously.
but oh well.

let's hope for a good week ahead.
as of now, i'm feeling exceptionally satisfied. :D

Wednesday, September 29, 2004 1:59 a.m.

orchard is a ghost town, i swear.
besides the few groups of st nicks girls in drips and draps, the place was practically void of any schooling kids.

of course, this is entirely the fault of chij st nicholas girls school, the institution that chose to end their dear girls' prelims during the period of intense mugging by the sec 1 to 3s (which explains why my sis refuses to permit a family outing for my shopping pleasure).
of course, this also automatically forces us into study mode, driven zealously by the boredom at home and all places in general (time flies when you're actually into your work).
and so, coincidentally, i am in no way the estatic post-prelim enthusiast i imagined myself to be, but a distressing worry wart with nothing but misoccupations of prelim raw scores ranging from 20 points upwards.

yes, it's true.
do not be alarmed to see me working at the tauhuay shop outside school.

on this note, i might also add that i foresee tomorrow as a supremely sleepy day in school.
for starters, i'm awake at this ungodly hour, and i certainly don't see how captivating the jc and university talks will be from tomorrow right up till monday.
i'm looking forward to presentations by a couple of jcs though. :D

and then my world will come crashing down when the results are released from tuesday onwards.

on a lighter note, billy bombers is in town!
literally.
i just noticed it in heeren today. :)
this gladdens me much, considering that the restaurant has been one of my favourites since i was 9 or so.
back then, the price of all kids' meals were determined by the weight of the child at the end of the meal; so after having my food, i'd stand on the weighing scale for the waiter to estimate a price.
then he'd charge it to the bill along with my parents'.
i always thought that was a novel idea. :)

and billy bombers always had those whimsical mini jukeboxes in every booth, which my grandpa would slip a dollar into for a song selection from their list of oldies.
i wonder if the heeren outlet has those.
and the retro toilets with the black and white checkered tiles.
and the posters reminiscent of america in the 1960s.
and all its little old american vibes.
nostalgia hits hard.

oh, and today's the mooncake festival!
after dinner with lynette and swei, charm, tanny and i hitched a ride from jan and dropped by charm's place for mooncake (a delicious mix of champagne, lotus paste and chocolate filling) and some moon appreciation.
it was gorgeous, the full moon. :)

and i thoroughly recommend the film that mitch, sab, trish, tanny and i caght today,
les choristes.
i. am. definitely. getting. the. soundtrack. :)

Sunday, September 26, 2004 09:47 p.m.

an update on the prelims and my current status quo.

best case scenario: i get into the jc of my choice for the first 3 months and forever more (of course, without any retaining involved).
worst case scenario: i hitch the job of my choice (that would be me and swei at the gift-wrap counter in takashimaya throughout the christmas season and beyond).

such positivity.
i desperately need moderating for emath and biology (with those crazy structured questions).
pretty please.

and i think st nicks is the only school with the prelim season still going strong.
it feels as if it'll never end.
25 days of torture.
i can't wait for the post-prelim season when we can all start mugging for our o's.
i bet that'll be more relaxing than the prelims, since we'd already have a headstart with our revision and the pressure wouldn't be as intense (the connotation of prelims being more difficult than the o's runs deep).

okay, i smell of lavender oil now.
my grandmama, fresh out of her "holistic massage course", popped over for a visit and gave me some upper body vigor by pounding me into pulp.
but for all its worth, it did feel good.
although i feel a bit dizzy now with a headache of some sort.
part of her regime included thrusting my head to and fro from one side to the other, either to loosen my muscles or relax whichever area.
even the shampoo boy at toni&guy commented that i have really tense muscles.
that can't be good.
because i certainly don't think that i've pushed myself that hard this month.

Sunday, September 19, 2004 05:40 p.m.

well, i just got back from holland village (where charm, jan and i studied after mass).
all was fine and dandy as we sat in coffee bean and read some notes...
then suddenly the stress got to us and we left.
for some gai-gai-ing.
all 3 of us bought pretty earrings from antipodean (it's my 3rd pair. i have to curb myself)...
before suddenly, in the spur of the moment, i decided to cut my hair.

so then we crossed the road and trooped up the stairs to the toni&guy hair salon for some fun.
the style director cut my hair for a whooping 90 dollars, but i'm really happy with what he did so i guess the price doesn't matter. :)
i'm quite glad about finally get that trim i've been wanting.

alright, this is the upcoming week of intensive studying; what with most of the exams crammed into it.
so i shall have to get back to my revision now.
i'm off. :)

Friday, September 17, 2004 11:11 a.m.

stepping out of my dad's car just now, i spied a red rolls royce parked right beside our car lot.
and it's spunky vintage to boot.

freak out.
what are such cars doing flashing out in the open?
i routinely (vocab word in the comprehension today :D) run my fingers along cars such as the huge green lexus on the occasion that i see them in the carpark...
but of course not to scratch it, oh no.
it just feels good touching a fifth of a million bucks. :)

grow old along with me

Thursday, September 16, 2004 03:04 p.m.

according to my biology studying, i conclude that the urine content of yours truly this rainy thursday afternoon is bound to be of extremely high proportions in terms of urea percentage.
why?
because i've eaten nothing but protein today.

i normally avoid meat as often as possible because i can't stand raw food (sashimi), bloody veins (chicken wings), dealing with bones (fish), unchewable textures (squid) and exerting unnecessary force (crab).
i go the friendly-eating way with boneless dory fish fillets or crabsticks (haha), as much as i actually love meat.
okay, that is highly contradictory.
because i do love stuff like black pepper crab.

alright back to my point of today's exceptionally high protein intake...
my mum roasted black-peppered beef pastrami and my dad bought a whole spring chicken home just now.
yummy it is, yes, but my jaws ache from all that chewing.
i think i had better drink more water and pass all that excess stuff out.

okay, it's back to the dining table (that's where i study).
:)

Tuesday, September 14, 2004 10:21 p.m.

mum just came home with a huge bag of marmalade pantry takeaway.
oh no, i spy cupcakes and quiches.

anyway, this is what we're missing because of the prelims.

Date : 24 September 2004, Friday
Time : 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm
Venue : Forum (Secondary Wing)
(Kindly park your cars along Ang Mo Kio Ave 2)

Many interesting programmes and activities are being planned. Highlights include lantern walk and games for the younger children, mooncake-making and tea-making demonstrations, and Chinese calligraphy. We will even have a photographer on standby for those who wish to capture some of the memories with their friends (for a token fee).

We would like to encourage you to come dressed for the occasion and bring along your own lanterns. We have prizes for the best dressed person and the best lantern.

Popular food items will be on sale that evening. To develop their entrepreneurial skills, we will be inviting our secondary students to set up these food stalls. So, please give them your support and come with an empty stomach.

Rest assured though for we have not forgotten the traditional things. Mooncakes and Chinese tea will be on the house.

As this is a self-funding event, a token sum of $10 will be collected from each participating family (regardless of the number of family members). Student alumnae will pay the concessionary fee of $5. We believe that with your valued support, we can make this a successful event.

suddenly, i want to support every programme st nicks organises.
