science practical. :)
jan, charm and i grouped up yesterday to slice a pig kidney in half.
seriously, it got me wondering how i'm ever going to pass the o level bio prac.
ms lim says that this year's practical might include the dissecting of an internal organ...
and from the looks of it, i just might puke over my specimen.
i especially hope it doesn't stink or reek my hands. xP
the chemistry practical is another quandary.
with my weird distaste for touching metal, and my penchant for washing hands everytime i come into contact with a chemical, the practical will be a joke.
i might as well wear gloves or something...
to steer clear of any physical contact.
suddenly, counting pendulum swings for physics doesn't seem all that bad.

i'm going to set my goal for the o levels. :)
english: a1
chinese: a1
english literature: a1
humans(geog): a2
math: a2
biology: a2
chem: b3
art: b3
haha...
i sincerely hope. :)

09:33 p.m.
u know what tickles me silly?
reading the search terms people type into google search that eventually link them to this page.
the things people do. :)
while waiting for my other elit project group members to come online, i shall update a little about the past 3 days.
sunday wasn't too bad...
i went for mass then post-con with the usual people.
met up with swei and jan at bugis after having lunch at fish and co...
sarah was around the area too.
anyway, i got locked out of the house again upon my reaching home, because i forgot to bring the house keys.
i always get caught in situations like these.
tsk. xP
monday was art excursion day.
mr foo took about 18 of us down to chinatown on a chartered bus...
i love these outings.
it was pretty much free and easy, so we walked all over chinatown looking for good food...
and boy did we find it.
i've found a new smoothie place...
and o'briens sandwich bar is officially my favourite takeout shop.
their sandwiches are delightful...
and the shop lady is especially nice.
me being me, i dropped half my honey-mustard-cucumber-lettuce-tomato-spicy-chicken sandwich on the floor in the shop.
so the nice shop lady offered to make me another one...
it's really yummy. :)
anyway, i thought we looked really cute that day.
imagine 10 convent girls walking and laughing through the quaint district that is chinatown...
10 convent girls hanging out in a place frequented by mainly expatriates, working professionals and tourists...
10 convent girls squeezed into a sandwich shop picking out their favourite fillings, jabbing at the glass display with absolute zeal. :)
oh gosh, my elit group's being so saddistic now...
we're looking for pictures of dead moths and rabbits for our project.
and skulls symbolising death.
haha...
and now they're watching happytreefriends. xP
oh yes, we also checked out 2 art galleries in chinatown.
got to meet the artist too...
funkadelic. :)
after the art excursion, valen, louie and i went to the takashimaya cold storage to shop for groceries.
i bought 3 sets of microwave dinners...
haha.
ate one for dinner just now, and it tastes exactly like the spaghetti macdonald's used to sell.
nauseating.
talking about today, jan, charm and i stayed back to watch the north zone chinese debate competition held in our school.
the china scholars speak beautiful mandarin, no kidding.
and they're incredibly quick-witted!
their mandarin is like...
rain droplets hitting the water.
very light and crisp.
haha...
what silly imagery.
but u get my point...
it's soothing just listening to them.
and both the st nicks teams won their debates. :)
oh yes, i think i have a knack for (accidentally) picking things up...
i started the year with zero rulers...
and now i have 4 rulers in my pencil case.
so if anyone's missing a plastic ruler, u know who to find. :)
omg, my mum just came home with marmalade pantry desserts!
i'm off. :)

11:40 p.m.
shopping with practically no cash isn't any less fun when u have a friend like sab...
which also explains why i am now $50 in debt to her.
also, for one of the rare few times in the past 3 years of my secondary school life, i am actually anticipating the return of our math scripts on monday.
maybe it's partly because it is the first emath paper we're getting back this year, and also partly because i (violently) hope to pass.
btw, happy sweet sixteen geri. :)

11:26 p.m.
you see i can't smile without you
i can't smile without you
i can't laugh and i can't sing
i'm finding it hard to do anything
you see i feel glad when you're glad
i feel sad when you're sad
if you only knew what i'm going through
i just can't smile without you
:(
okae today's been really taxing...
if i could, i'd just sleep through this weekend.
but that'll be the day...
i need to get on a serotonin high or something.
ahhh...chocolate never fails me.
:)
love poetry's showing on channel 5 now...
i think it's adapted from this french movie my teacher told me about.
it tells the tale of a hideous man who speaks beautiful, fluid prose...
of which girls fall head over heels in love with.
but one look at his face and women deter, all infatuation diminished.
as luck would have it, he falls in love with a pretty lady, who in turn loves the most handsome man in the city.
however, the latter speaks in monosyllables and it turns the pretty lady off.
so in order for our Ugly Guy to get close to the Pretty Lady, he makes a pact with the Handsome Guy.
the following night, the Handsome Guy goes on a date with the Pretty Lady.
they take a walk in the park and our Ugly Guy hides behind a bush.
he then acts as a semi-ventriloquist, with the Handsome Guy akin to a wooden dummy...
and the Ugly Guy showering the Pretty Lady with his eloquency.
the Handsome Guy gets all the kisses and lavish praise...
and i've forgotten the rest of the story.
it's quite a sad tale, actually...
because the Ugly Guy doesn't get the Pretty Lady.
he dies, i think.
gosh, i'm such a bad storyteller...
i twist and contort things...
the story was told with much more effect when i heard it.
haha.
oh well, i'm off for some chocolate now. :)
(anti-climax)
:)

12:38 a.m.
i've got a herpes sprouting on my upper lip.
it itches like crazy...
i think it's gonna start oozing pus or something...
wish i could just bite it off.
herpes: (noun) viral diseases causing eruptions of the skin or mucous membrane
doesn't that sound sick.
by the way, i've uploaded really old photos in the outdoor album from photo 141 onwards. :)

10:48 p.m.
my sundays are usually the most wholesome of the week.
take for instance today...
i woke up at 7am.
gave out leaflets in church with the other girls.
had breakfast with father brian and tiff.
attended a post-con session.
went on a (very fruitful) shopping spree with den.
ate yummy gelato.
went jogging with the church people.
ate an uber-healthy dinner from serangoon gardens.
:)
so basically, i'm really satisfied right now.
and oh oh oh, i must mention this.
in borders today, i met the lady i most admire.
mrs tina tan-leo.
she's the epitome of everything i aspire to be...
aside from the fact that she isn't an editor.
but i guess nobody could actually handle being both an editor and businesswoman, right?
yes.
but she's still very idyllic to me.
and her 2 sons look damn good. :)
i digress.
anyhow, i'm really sleepy now.
zZzzZzzZzz...
but there are tons of chinese essays awaiting completion.
i don't normally complain about workload...
but i'm really feeling it right now.
at this point, i seriously don't see a positive thing about being sec4.

11:35 p.m.
i try to update.
really, i do.
but i'm a self-confessed bum.
the acjc fun-o-rama this afternoon was sizzling hot.
of course, i'm referring to the weather.
it's now 'away with the rainy season' and 'hello!' to the beautiful singapore sun.
oh no, age spots!
anyway, my toes are hurting from walking around town with sab, mitch and sarah today.
i've finally properly shopped for the first time this month.
whoopdeedoop.
also, we took a photo with the marche cow after having dinner there.
it's now covered in red valentine hearts...
i say, do rush down to get a shot with it before they repaint it again.
:)

10:09 p.m.
happy birthday swei! :)
yes, okae, it's 2 days late.
but i wanna talk all about our majorly-foiled party plans...
so here goes. :)
we'd been planning for swei's surprise party waaaay ahead...
and notice how i bold the word "surprise".
ironically, it was anything but one.
every single one of us wrecked our own plans one by one...
plan a...plan b...plan c...
at least plan d worked, although with a few defects.
that being...
1) i leaked out that tanny was coming.
2) we were hiding in swei's house waiting for her to get home, when swei's sis called her up.
"jie jie, dun come home so early. they haven't finished the surprise!"
"who are they?"
"i cannot tell you. or else they won't let me into your room."
and many many other spoilers...
anyhow, swei rushed home after that phonecall, earlier than we had expected her.
once she entered the room, we started screaming in shock.
i was so dumbstruck...i think i was gaping.
but all the phonecalls to her mother, all the rushing about to buy the cake, all the exorbitant cab fares, all the 9.30pm meetings online were worth it - cos swei had the time of her life. :)
only jan, chow, tanny and i could stayover (or thon, as jan claims)...
and we had so much fun. :)
we sang her a birthday song to the tune of bengawan solo, because the cake was from there...
oh the stupid things we do. xP
i really really do love 3/4purity...
despite all the heartache.
just that day, friday the 13th, someone stole tanny's handphone in class.
i'd never felt so helpless in all my life.
but the deed was done, so all i could do was cuss at the thief in my head.
haha...well, not really.
but i was hopping mad at that time.
anyhow, that eventful friday was also valentine's eve...
so the usual gift-exchanging went on.
this year was significantly more toned down, probably due to the fact that it wasn't vday itself.
but the presents were as sweet as ever. :)
especially the pink lilies (my favourite flower) from jan!
although they sagged, although they were wilting, although they stank so badly, i still love them. :)
swei ordered 8 huge pizzas during that recess too...
and we seriously pigged out.
by 2pm that day, i had eaten chocolates, cookies, sweets, pizza, ice cream and biscuits.
sinful, i know.
on to saturday morning...
tanny and i were the last to wake up.
swei and the rest had rushed to school for training...
so my dad came to fetch us home.
i washed up and rushed for french...
then at 5.30pm sharp, my dad took me down to the indoor stadium for the mtv asia awards. :)
i must mention that on the way there, we drove through orchard...
and omg, what a sight.
there were couples all over the place...
both heterosexuals and homosexuals.
it looked as if singaporeans came in pairs.
anyway, my aunt and uncle got vip tickets for the maa, and we kids got the seated ones.
i actually had extra tickets that i could have sold or given away, but i wasn't aggressive enough!
my uncle told us many people had lost their tickets and were desperately trying to purchase them outside the stadium...
but i didn't bother asking anyone if they wanted them.
so my 2 tickets went to waste...
a pity, really.
i could have given them away...
or sold them for $300 like some people did.
tsk...easy money. xP
anyway, i sat around the middle area...
around us were mainly adults, guests of the sponsors...
so the ambience there was pretty...subdued.
we got a pretty good view though...
and i met many people!
i went into the vip reception area for awhile with my aunt, and i felt totally out-of-place in my understated jeans and tank combo.
i mean, people were in dresses, skirts, and even leather pants!
whew.
anyhow, the concert was a let down...
besides technical faults all over the place, the acts were mediocre.
but the duet between gareth gates and siti nurhaliza was fantastic.
and i kinda liked the thai mcintyre guy...
haha...thrusting hips and all. :)
after the maa, i went down to my cousin's house to charge my handphone...
then cabbed down to punggol for supper with swei, chow, jan, charm and tanny.
i ate shrimp chee cheong fun and an egg tart...
yummy stuff.
after that we played bridge and i got home at 1.30am.
by then i was dead beat...
but i woke up early the next morning for post-con.
i finally saw tiff after 3 weeks...
yay! :)
there was a food fair going on that sunday, but most of the better buys were snapped up by the time we got there.
either that or the foodstuff got too cold, and us being fussy eaters...
yupp.
after that i went home, napped, then rushed down to the serangoon swimming complex for our weekly exercise.
brendan looked so cute with all his jigglies...
haha.
i happen to think he has a very proportional body. :D
anyway, 4 of us didn't swim because we wanted to go for mass...
so we attended the 6.15pm one.
i got my holy communion from father brian. :)
whoopee.
tiff and i went home after that.
anyway, i took many photos throughout this weekend...
but i haven't uploaded them just as yet.
maybe i will a couple of days later.
this weekend has been a rocking good time...
although i really regret having to miss sarah's baptism.
congrats dear!
also, eating solero berry/coffee crush now holds an entirely different significance.
it's our ice cream...
and i hope they never stop selling it. :)

11:33 p.m.
spotlight at plaza singapura was thronging with last-minute-vday-gift-givers today.
most of the red and pink stuff were snapped up...
but hey, i finally got all the satin ribbons i wanted. :)
muthu, my high-expertise-in-html-and-flash-macromedia seat partner, has reconstructed our class webpage.
cheers to her.
we're also fellow sufferers of the chalk dust that plagues us from morning to night...
courtesy of the front row centre seats bestowed upon us by our dear mrs soh.
i wonder why mrs soh is going to be absent tomorrow?
Monday, February 9, 2004
10:43 p.m.
yay i got tickets for the mtv asia awards. :)
everyday is so wonderful, then suddenly, it's hard to breathe
now and then i get insecure, from all the pain
i'm so ashamed
i am beautiful no matter what they say
words can't bring me down
i am beautiful in every single way
yes words can't bring me down
so don't you bring me down today

10:27 p.m.
happy birthday sarah! :)
it's a day late though...
we celebrated her birthday yesterday. :)
and what a blast!
the 6 of us including tanny got together again...
hope the photos we took come out really nicely. :)
i'm getting them as hardcopies though, so i won't be able to upload them.
anyway, sarah had her church friends and classmates over too...
the party was held at this really chic, cosy, eclectic french restaurant with a gargantuan television and pool table to boot.
how nice.
i had my first-ever full-length game of pool and won!
but it was purely based on beginner's luck...
no skills whatsoever. xP
anyway, the place was at robertson walk (at least i think that's what it's called) near clarke quay...
and wow, i sooooo wanna get an apartment there next time.
there's this building of apartments just above the many many pubs below...
how nice is that.
imagine walking down and entering this lovely bohemian-esque row of shops by day...
and sitting back relaxing as the pubs project a live football game on the wall with a spontaneous crowd throwing in the yips and whoops dead into the night.
nice!
anyway, i got home around 12.30am...
and woke up for post-con at church this morning.
went for lunch with the family at da paolo, this really yummy french restaurant with prices as exorbitant as their tiramisu is good.
i mean seriously...
i'm head over heels in love with the strong coffee liquour and sweet mascarpone cheese of the tiramisu...
just the way i like it. :)
but the pricing is a little unreasonable.
anyhow, i love the whole wooden-platform-walk-in-with-bamboo-shoots-along-the-way concept upon entering and exiting the restaurant...
very zen. :)
speaking of which, i don't like zen home concepts...
i think it's too clean and sleek a look.
i like stuffed homes chockful of personal rubbish and colours everywhere. :)
anyway, i spent the larger part of the meal people-watching.
the place was brimming with expatriates...
and their waiters are hilariously impeccable...
from the gelled-centre-parting-of-the-hair right down to their manners...
they literally swoop down on u once u clear ur plate, or if u drink as much as one sip of water (refill! refill!), or if u so much as raise ur hand to call them over.
okae, maybe i'm exaggerating a little...
but it did seem that their efficiency was as impressive as that. xP
anyhow, i went to borders to scour for a few books i've been wanting to get...
and i did find them, but they raked up to about $60 altogether.
and since i really don't believe in blowing cash on something i could easily find in a library, i went shopping instead.
talk about priorities.
after getting a dkny top, i quickly rushed home and changed into more sporty-ish gear for a little exercise at serangoon stadium.
met up with kim, benedict, christian, brendan, brandon, james and faye over there...
but i was in birkenstocks and couldn't run.
so kim and i sat around attempting to study...
didn't work for me though.
then we decided to cycle for a bit, so we hoisted up the bikes and cycled out.
i borrowed james' bike, and it's so cool and funky!
great colours and everything...
too bad i have pathetic cycling skills, so i didn't do it much justice.
and well...i fell.
the bike overwhelms me...it's quite high.
haha.
i think benedict almost had a heart attack riding with kim and me.
the both of us didn't even know the different brakes stopped different wheels of the bike...
so after his little tutorial, we continued for one more round around the stadium.
we adjourned soon after though, before anyone got too badly injured.
it was impending.
i'm a park-cyclist, not a road-cyclist.
i need my wide pathways and pedestrians who respond to my perpetual ringing of the bell...
not narrow spaces, sharp turns, dangerous leaf-strewn slopes and vehicles that honk louder than i ring. xP
anyhow, after the guys' jog/run/sprint, we sat around talking for a bit before heading home.
they're thinking of making this a weekly thing...
something we could do after post-con every week.
maybe then my goals of hitting 40kg and a sub-12min timing for the 2.4km might just come into play. xP
see, it's always easy to say.

09:40 p.m.
i've been meeting really interesting people of late...
one of whom i will dedicate this entry to. :)
down the route through farrer/holland road on bus service 165 this afternoon, a lady in her mid 40s came onboard.
she was pretty much the epitome of a brand-name junkie....
head to toe dior, burberry and chanel.
her hair was uber-heavily dyed and permed too...
totally out of place on a bus.
so anyway, i continued reading my magazine and hiding from the bus driver (i was sipping on a regular pure vanilla that i promised the driver i wouldn't drink onboard).
about 5mins later, she called to me...
and suddenly asked about my parentage, interests, and whether i liked fashion design.
i grinned and laughed the comment off...
then held out the magazine to her and asked if she'd like to read it (frankly, i think she was just bored with the bus ride and needed something to occupy her time).
so she took it and started to flip through...
then she stopped at a page of jewellery designs and pointed out a pair of earrings.
apparently, she designs jewellery part-time and the pair of earrings was one of her designs.
at first i was skeptical...
i mean, the magazine was an american one, and what are the chances of a prominent american magazine featuring jewellery designed by a singaporean nobody?
but she showed me the pair of earrings she had on then, and they were identical, except in a different colour as the one in the magazine.
so i believed her...haha.
after that she told me she was an image consultant and stylist too...
so she took out polaroids of herself with mediacorp celebs like...
i dunno their names.
but people i see in chinese serials...
i think the names included chen lizhen and mei something...chinese names.
so anyway, she told me all about the fashion and media industry.
apparently, she studied design in france...
and her french is really fluent!
she spoke to me in mandarin though, and not much english, which is quite weird.
then i realised why.
she asked which school i was from, and when i said shen ni ge la...
she excitedly squeezed my hand and said she was an old girl.
st nicholas old girls were mainly chinese-educated.
and wow...
now i know what xiaozhang meant by us meeting fellow schoolmates in the future and feeling a connection. :)
the lady started rambling on and on about the school and xiaozhang (she visits her every year) and the alumni...
and the teachers.
mrs seah is her niece or something...
i didn't catch what she was saying (fluent chinese man).
so yupp...i learnt a lot from her throughout that bus journey.
also, i told her i was looking through the magazine for graduation dress ideas...
and she offered to help.
but i told her i couldn't afford her, then she said she'd do it free-of-charge. :)
haha...
anyhow, she was on her way to her friend's wedding dinner and was gonna help with the makeup.
that's why she had to leave the house earlier and leave the car for her husband, which explains why she was on a bus.
then she went on about chance meetings.
haha...
i alighted the bus feeling really warm and fuzzy, for whatever reason.
i'm also proud to say i spoke not a word of english but mandarin for a full hour. :)
i need more of these practices...
anyway, it's really heartening to meet someone like that...
for the simple reason that speaking to someone at the same wavelength despite her leading a radically different life from u is almost always fascinating.
i hope i meet her at a school function one day. :)

10:25 p.m.
got this link from brendan's blog...
funkadelic. :)
i have a rant...
i do not want to sit right in front, right in the middle, of the classroom.
that's where mrs soh puts me...
and it's a terrible seat.
only muthu can understand the turmoil...
breathing in chalk dust day in day out is no joke.
it results in a disgusting build-up of horrible nose dirt.
then the sinus kicks in...
eeeeew. xP

09:24 p.m.

everybody swooooooon. :)

first off, happy monkey year!
got so much to mention...
i've been procractinating for goodness knows how long already, so here's my update. :)
i enjoyed my chinese new year so much so i wanna talk all about it!
here goes...
the eve.
reached school at 7.30am...
i came late because i couldn't decide what to wear.
haha...what an airhead, i know.
chinese new year mass was especially boring this year...
and on top of that, more than half the class didn't come.
tsk tsk.
anyway, once all the celebrations were over and done with...
mitch, sab, sarah and i took a cab (so many people were flagging cabs) down to orchard.
that was more than a week ago...
and so my memory is failing me.
don't remember much except that i had to leave early, so i went out to the bus stop behind takashimaya...
and ladooleeladay!
met valen, chow, eunice and grace there. :)
rushed home, hopped into the car, and whoooshed down to malaysia for the reunion dinner over with my paternal side.
chinese new year there is always the same...
it never lacks the annoying yet interesting pops and bangs of children playing firecrackers and fireworks outside...
the powerful golden strokes of calligraphy ink on the chun lian hanging on the walls (my grandfather is a calligrapher)...
and the widespread reunion dinner meal (always with the same few familiar dishes) that my aunt whips up annually.
got home pretty late with my new stash of ringgit, and then...
the 1st day of chinese new year.
went to my maternal grandparents' place...
whereby we met up with my cousins and everyone else.
i had loads of pineapple tarts and pomelo and biscuits and steamboat and popiah.
goodness.
we lounged around and watched american idol after that...
haha...we couldn't stop laughing. :)
i love simon...
he gives it like it is.
brilliant.
anyway, i've uploaded photos of my cousins. :)
do check them out later.
2nd day of chinese new year.
i remember it raining...incessantly.
went over to swei's house for a little gambling (i won $6! cheap thrill man) with a few others...
it's such a drastic difference the way the adults gambled as compared to us little kids.
they used blue and red notes...
we used gold coins and purple notes.
anyhow, we had a lot of fun...
playing bridge, daidee and mahjong. :)
but i had to leave early when my dad came to pick me up.
he dropped davina and me at my aunt's place near serene centre where we met up with all the cousins. :)
it was like a huge family excursion...
went down to lido to catch peter pan, and omg...
what an experience.
it's no joke taking 7 kids out...
but fortunately, we got a whole row of 10 seats to sit altogether.
we were making so much noise...
passing the popcorn, nachos and drinks up and down...
and my younger cousins kept kicking the chairs infront of them.
in one part of the movie, when the children came back from neverland and asked mr darling whether he missed them...
my cousin daniel made a spectacle of himself.
children, "did u miss us father?"
daniel, really loudly, "of course! what do u think?"
he's so hyper...haha.
anyway, we headed down to borders after that and browsed around till midnight.
we had a supper of dessert at the borders cafe too...
and i think their georgie podgie pudding and pie is kickass good.
it's this warm chocolate fudge cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream...
heavenly!
the smoothies are good too...
speaking of which, i am extremely disappointed that the gnc smoothie place below tangs has closed down.
when fuzion smoothie at takashimaya wound up, i thought things wouldn't be so bad with the gnc smoothie booth still in the area.
but no, now with both of them gone, i can only turn to the less-yummy smoothies at far east plaza.
tsk...argh.
irritation.
anyway, i've posted photos of that day's outing too. :)
now on to the...
3rd day of chinese new year.
i didn't have math tuition but there was french...
then dad fetched me to christian's place.
it was some church party thingie...quite a few people were there.
and lo and behold, there was gambling. :)
i won about $24 this time...at blackjack.
stayed there till slightly after midnight playing daidee, and then my dad came to fetch me home.
4th day of chinese new year.
went for mass...then...
met up with tanny, swei, chow, jan, charm and lynette for a little get-together.
we were supposed to shop for long-overdue birthday presents we owed...
but being the selfish pigs we are, the stuff we bought were all for ourselves. xP
walked quite a lot...and shopped quite a bit too.
also ate gelato and pizza at taglio! :)
do check out the restaurant in wisma...
the pizzas are sinfully yummy. :)
basically, things have been going great...
although exasperatingly enough, the events of the past week are lollingly drifting about my brain without any chronological order pinning it down for me to make any sense of.
hence i can't type them down neatly here.
but i must acknowledge charm's birthday. :)
not to mention the "yummy" oreo cheesecake bought by janice...
haha.
also, i wanna recommend this place called original sin at chip bee gardens.
i've heard about it before and stuff...
but only tried the place out today.
and whoa, it's really awesome.
they serve mediterranean vegetarian dishes...
great stuff. :)
and the place is wonderful for eyecandy too...
many good-looking celebs. :)
i mean, nadya looked so stunning!
alrighty, i'm really glad i've got this entry done...
albeit its lack of a great many details.
i must mention though, the bridge addiction bugging jan, swei, chow and me is getting quite drastic.
when u resort to squeezing 4 people into a toilet cubicle, squatting down to the eye level of a toilet bowl, and playing one round of bridge just because, u know it's an obsession!
but i do so love bridge...
i can totally see myself on a rocking chair in 6 more decades, sipping on tea and playing bridge with my 3 other equally obsessed kakis. :)
oh yes, i've been putting this off quite a bit...
photo updates:
