12:51 a.m.
thursday had me all prepared for pe and fitness training although both got cancelled for the mjc soccer match
(i bet all the pe teachers wanted to watch it.)
cancellation of pe or training hardly ever happens so imagine my joy!
and it was so funny during the game because everytime no. 2 touched the ball, i could hear girls squealing in the background.
we won the match, yay!
i remember it was during sports season last year, when the seniors used to carry canteen tables out onto the track as spectator stands, and when we would cheer our lungs out on homeground, that i fell in love with the whole sa spirit thing.
it's almost as strong as st nicks'. :)
friday was major catch-up day with janice, tanessa and charmaine, just sitting around drinking coffee and talking.
i loved every minute of it although i was so tired out from the week (or month for that matter).
we also did some shopping at the hybrit exhibition i'd been dying to check out - british labels, i like!
that left us with a hilariously low budget for dinner and the rest of our journey home after midnight - we always run ourselves dry like that.
cheap thrills ensued in ang mo kio with yummy hawker fare, bubble tea and mahjong cards.
today was as saturdays always are;
pitch training in the morning and a nice hearty meal at night.
we had a highly dangerous self-refereed possession game during which people kept getting injured one after another.
my heart almost stopped when feijuan's head got hit by roxanne's ball!
anyhoo, i just got back from jalan kayu where we had some prata lovin'.
belle, dinah, sab, tanny, tricia, wendy, serene and i had supper there right after supporting the girls at danceworks.
i loved the malay hiphop dancing kids - so incredibly cute!
and it was great impromptu catching up with bella belle tonight.
she has as many eyecandies as ever but i think i do a pretty good job remembering their names. ;)
thanks for walking me home (and dinah too)!
i promise you a date after the hockey season is over.
well okay i am dead beat and in dire need of a shower.
shall be off soon!
in the meantime, i'll just post a few random photos of the hockey girls.

please let us not sustain anymore injuries!

11:58 p.m.
waking up from a 2 hour nap in the library today, i thought i'd died and gone to heaven.
not because the sleep was so wondrous and rejuvenating blahblahblah but because my whole body was numb and i couldn't feel anything at all - it was like floating on air!
anyway, as i was telling mal after shaking the pins and needles off, we really shouldn't be sleeping in the library anymore.
i must psycho myself into respecting and treating the place as a haven for studious endeavours.
haha, i'm so funny.
got this quote in an email from tanny:
A simple friend, when visiting, acts like a guest.
A real friend opens your refrigerator and helps himself.
hahahahahahaha.
this just reminds me of how we always finish up mich's sunkist orange juice (she gets really annoyed) and how i steal her dad's hl milk (the rest don't like it) and how i make mocha smoothies in sab's kitchen and complain that her straws aren't thick enough then force the rest to drink my concoctions up (my estimation is way out of proportion and i always make extra).
now i can use this against them!
justification.
well historical moment of the day:
me winning the chopstick game, not just once, but a few times thanks to evi, the girl with a childhood.
she imparted her precious tips and tactics to me - don't mess.
i jotted them down and will protect the pseudo-chopstick-manual with my life.
pitch training in the evening was quite bad for me because i hadn't eaten since my first break at 8.45am and didn't realise it.
going without meals for 9 hours is a big no-no for this foodie;
i got dizzy and strengthless!
but that's no excuse, i havetohavetohaveto practice more consistency in ball hits.
so anyway, today was huiqi's 18th birthday and i'll post the photos once she uploads them.
that's what i do best - stealing pictures!
:) happy birthday once again.
so many march babies huh.

09:37 p.m.
my day in stolen photographs.

m&m.
the birthday kids!

pepsi-cola 123!

and then i came home to my grandparents (who came a-visiting!) and piping-hot chilli crab. :D
i feel so guilty for hitting cheryl with the stick today.
but i'm going to do everything i can to make her feel better!
no more being a klutz!

12:08 p.m.
i think one of the nicest things about growing up is the oft-neglected right to choose your own breakfast.
just like how my having oreo cookies&milk as a meal would've been totally out of the question 10 years ago but is entirely permissible now (that was my breakfast today!)
unfortunately for my kids, i won't be as liberal as my own parents and will be feeding them all the organic goodness of our earth until the age of 18;
afterwhich they will be expected to have been mutated to the point of not ever wanting to ingest anything but.
haha, i jest.
while we're on the topic of food, you know that gooey taiwanese mee sua thing they sell at junction 8?
i finished three full bowls of it for lunch yesterday.
den's eyes almost popped out of their sockets because she doesn't believe i can eat.
alas, i have an expandable tummy!
well there are a few errands to be run before i head to school for training in the evening.
i hope physical conditioning (euphemism for torture, really) goes well.
we're supposed to be peaking in a month, omg!
my fitness is zilch.
happy belated 18th, mitchel!

08:39 p.m.
okay feedback please;
is this colour too light?
is the font too small?
are the alignments off tangent?
do drop me a note!
i took apart most of the original template and edited all the headings so i'd like to think it's much neater now. :)
the four links by the side here are my absolute favourites and i have to visit them everyday even if it kills me.
if you're feeling free, do click!
oh shucks i'm late for supper.
going to meet the girls for drinks at tanny's new workplace - gotta scoot!

11:23 p.m.
the 05a21 crew;

we <3 lumpy!
nicest pe teacher i've ever had.
my dad finally replaced the missing usb cable so i managed to upload a bunch of ancient photos.
they are so super outdated, i actually wore a watch back then.
my dearest, trusty sony.

this is so super outdated, ms chua's tummy is still flat.
she should be in her second trimester by now if i'm not wrong.

how ancient are these;
st nicks' sports day 2005!
tiff, sondra and jan. :)

grogginess at garden hotel.
photography at 4am hardly comes out well.

charm and i made this at haagen dazs - fun!

i know i look retarded here.
but oh to be completely carefree and unwarranted again;
sadly that day will only ever come after the a's.
december, roll on by for me please!
and if all the world was perfect,
i would only ever want to see your scars.
sweet.

11:28 p.m.
today was close to perfect!
if i could play it on repeat mode i would i would i would.
of course, geography was a total disaster for me...
i don't remember reading anything about controlling river floods and human geog was a whole spew of general knowledge off the top of my head.
not good at all.
but back to my point!
jo, cheryl, mal, weiyan and i travelled around the whole of singapore eating and shopping and talking and eating.
i had all my favourite foods from ice monster to dino's chicken pie to maxbrenner chocolate fondue and a whole lot of other stuff.
satisfying, but it had better come off during tomorrow's training.
i loved the heart-felt talks and today was like one of those 2005 after-school outings (omg where have they gone to);
i wanna go back to being j1!
edit: icon at bugis is not for the claustrophobic.
their six floors of supposedly hip clothing is...
disappointing to say the least.
save your time, trawl fareast any other day.

02:42 p.m.
yesterday was sabrina's 18th birthday and sarah called back from america.
the six of us conferenced for close to 2 hours just catching up on each other's lives. :)
sarah's preparing for her graduation prom and everything...
i'm so excited for her!
and it was snowing in spring at her campus!
last night, five of us sat around the pool eating to-die-for bakerzin cheesecake and drinking tia maria.
too bad the blocktests made too much of a presence for us to talk through the night.
sab, i hope we made your day!
love you more than you'll ever know.
i uploaded a bunch of hockey photos here.
got them from random people.
one more paper to go!

07:57 p.m.
omg i've been such a spoilt brat.
our 4-day mission trip entailed;
being whisked from place to place in chauffeured vans and pigging out at hotel buffets, dinner at a minister's home with this kick-ass cocktail everyone loved, lots of formal group photos with random indonesians, being brought to a mega-huge shopping mall and playing arcade games, having expensive drinks and attempting to complete some readings but promptly dozing off instead - wherever, whenever.
of course we met the kids and had fun with them although more significant to me were the conversations with their teachers because the adults were so incredibly eager to learn.
everyone was so...nice.
well i just got home not long ago and lethargy is killing me.
it's blocktest week - ahhhhhh!

03:33 p.m.
hello party people!
having pmsed for three consecutive days, i'm super high and brimming over with all that pent-up energy now.
i've laid out all my clothes so i'll be off to pack in a while.
kl was fine.
during our game on the second day, there was this malaysian player i marked who kept talking to me and we actually ended up chatting quite a bit.
anita is 16 years old, has 2 siblings, is the youngest child, likes swimming and has learnt hockey for 4 months.
she kept asking me about singapore too.
all the action was in our attack so the defense was quite relaxed...
and boy could that girl talk.
oh and we've added a new game to our repertoire;
on top of bridge, daidee, bluff and snap, we now have donkey!
and i was mildly disgusted by the state of my room on the first night because after the 44 people who were squashed into it left (we were having our post-mortem on video), i found random clumps of hair everywhere -
in the toilet, on the carpet and on my bed.
grossology.
well okay, best part of the trip for me:
all the talks and laughter.
worst part: the 4-hour wait at some stuffy stopover because our tyre went bust.
i really hope we walk away from the 'a' div with something because this team deserves it.
♥ them all!

08:54 p.m.
i doon't wannaaa leavee singaaporee!
(that's supposed to come out as a whine.)
i refuse to pack my bags.
argh, shucks, i love travelling but kl and jakarta seem so unappealing this time.
and i'm supposed to sit on top of a bloody pad for 12 hours on the bus.
like hello?!
utterly gross.
i've been receiving an arsenal of emails concerning the upcoming lectors' commisioning mass this saturday and it's too bad i have to miss it.
they serve pretty good food in church!
and the best part is they think i'm being coy by rejecting their food offers so they pile my plate with more, more and even more...
okay that's it i've got to pack my bags.
i still have to email ms giam the 4 econs essays i owe her for homework.
like omg am i dead or what.
this is me in high-stress mode please.
all i want to do is call my friends up and rant but i don't even have time for that. :(
on wednesday, in the 24 hours i have to myself before flying off again, i will post a one-word entry to describe the hockey trip.
let's hope it'll be a fruitful three days yes.
Friday, March 10, 2006
11:41 p.m.
it's the start of Mugging Week.
i miss my girls real badly and since mich just uploaded our photos, i'm going to do a pictorial entry today!
it's of our bintan trip in december...
here goes.

our first photo;
we met up for some grocery shopping in the morning.

on our way...

everybody!

how cute is sarah?!

the swimmers.

and the tanners.

sab our head chef, slicing the stingray.

the slackers not helping in the kitchen.

we really did laze about quite a lot.
(do you realise the sun's gone down and tanny hasn't changed her position at all.)

sarah we're so proud of your pork/prawn balls!

my contribution: spreading sambal chilli on the stingray and pouring water.

accomplishment.

constructing her mermaid's tail...

voila.

i was so happy 'cause the sun wasn't out!
although the rest wanted to tan (hahaha)...
we settled for body surfing instead.

i do i do!

11:39 p.m.
come let's gather round and contemplate why karina has such incredibly bad luck.
one.
i broke out in rashes all over my face and a blister on my nose 'cause of "overexposure to the sun", according to the doctor.
awesome, i'm turning into a gargoyle.
but ugliness is not new to me - that i can deal.
what worries me more is...
two.
during economics lesson today:
lecturer: keynesian...blah blah blah...china...blah blah...monetarist...blah blah blah...(insert whole chunk of obscure abbreviations)...
me: wha-what?!
three.
i lost all the songs on my ipod when i sent it for repair.
and for someone as neurotic as me, that means hours spent organising my playlists, capitalizing proper nouns, sorting of the genres and rating each song going completely down the drain.
the guy at the service centre recognised me because his computer system hung the last time he plugged my ipod in, and it happened again yesterday.
i felt so bad for troubling him but i think he felt worse making me wait for the system to restart.
four.
this has got to be the clincher - think: Bird Shit Dropping on Karina Part II;
except this time, it didn't splatter on my head ala 2004 but landed on my left shoulder instead.
how disgusting lah seriously.
but i know some people have it worse - my worries are so superficial, it's a bit embarrassing actually.
everyone's talking about the suicide cases recently and it's really depressing having to imagine teenagers that stressed out.
i used to think of suicide as the selfish way out, the kind of ending no one should have to resort to, and i still feel that way although it's tinged with more sympathy than distaste per se.
deaths (in particular human-inflicted ones) are the sort of things you always read about, but it doesn't quite hit home until tragedy strikes someone in close degree.
especially when they're young (17, hello) and ever so promising.
ah but i digress from the frivolity this blog is meant for.
of course, at the other end of the spectrum are people with no sense of urgency - like me.
something to reflect on.
pitch training today was quite the pressure release (no matter how much i complain beforehand, it always turns out fun), although most people have decidedly toned down in light of our ominous Block Tests (cue funeral march).
i allow myself until saturday (perhaps to seek out my Lady Luck - i need her!) before productivity must set in.
till then, let's try to keep up with tutorials first.

05:55 p.m.
okay i took the day off from school today to run some errands and go shop-shop-shopping.
it's the most de-stressing thing in the world.
first i headed down to people's park centre to collect the new jakarta tickets;
salesmen, from electronics to air travel, are out to get you i swear.
the administration fee alone was enough to cover a whole other ticket.
next i walked over to ann siang hill and erskine road where the shopping was so darn good i almost peed in my pants.
i bought the orange leather bag i saw the last time - the shop owner gave me a 30% discount!
see it's best to shop on weekdays;
business is so slow, there's always time to make small talk.
i also bought a new school bag, clothes and many other knick knacks...
don't think i want to go shopping in malaysia and indonesia next week anymore.
guilt trip, baby.
anyway, i spent like more than 20 dollars on cab fare today so there goes my lunch money.
came back home for a rummage-through-the-fridge dinner, did some econs tys mcq, and am now waiting for my dad to send me down to the apple carecentre.
last errand for the day and i'm done - boy do i love completing to-do lists.

11:33 p.m.
today is the day of birthdays;
i think i heard of about 8 people celebrating their big day today!
anyway this is going to be a stolen-photo-plus-caption entry...
here goes.

we smothered our dancing queen with glitter.
that stuff's a bitch to get rid of...
we had sparkly cake and sparkly hair and sparkly everything!

this looks like a studio shot.
we stuffed the tutu skirt with love notes and fabric flowers. :)

with the dancers.
charlotte and i had great fun putting that puzzle together in the caf...
i kept squealing when each jigsaw piece fit!
we took the whole of gp lesson to complete it. :D

part of the pavillion deco - it's unintentional, haha.
oh and i squeezed into the sports locker today (one of my Silly Daily Unglam Activities), except weiyan immediately banged the door shut and left me in the claustrophobic darkness of that puny space for all of 3 seconds!

at least i've found the perfect hiding place!
we took like a million more photos today but they're all in different cameras;
i'll post more once they're made available.
don't worry, i'm an effective, efficient picture thief. :)

05:03 a.m.
just got home.
dead beat.
thought i'd share this with you;
it's one of my favourite blogs.
i get a naturally high just looking through the photos. :)
seven hours ago, i was forced out of the house to meet chow, jan, charm and tanny for supper;
they have no sympathy for 'a long, tiring day'.
but i dragged myself down anyway and visited my favourite chinchow aunty who gives me more jelly and less syrup 'cause i like it that way!
she's so cute.
the five of us talked through the night over food - i love that.
but i should be getting to sleep now.
my nose hurts from this morning's training...
the sun is definitely not my friend.

i had to steal this photo from weiyan.
how cute are they?!

12:30 a.m.
floating and fighting, like a kite on a string
till you cut through my tether and changed everything
from the sky you looked small, but i loved you the same
so i darted back quickly to spell out your name
and when they say that i'm just a terrible kite
you'll tell them you're proud of my marvelous flight.
copeland's 'kite'.

such pretty nostalgia.
