being able to log in here is like striking the lottery - the website only works at sporadic moments!
anyhoo, friday was our mid-autumn festival mini-picnic with mooncakes, tea sets, lanterns and sparklers amidst the foilage (and ant rampage) of the botanic gardens.
going home before the moon came up was a tad anti-climatic but wth, i had fun. :)

and since i'm on a roll, here's the quiz geri made me do.

maybe i should stop downloading music and go study.
i love teh tarik, shitake mushrooms, tiger lilies and polaroids.
i don't understand why we have to take the a's.
i lose sleep over the phone (like with jan and charm last night!)
people say i am the epitome of slumber.
love is ambiguous.
when i like someone i don't show it as much as i should.
somewhere someone is shopping! without me!
i will always succumb - it's just a matter of time.
'forever' is inconceivable to me.
i never want to take another exam ever again.
i think the current US president looks like a monkey.
i will never get a sex change. i mean, really. girls have more fun.
my past is mine to laugh at - and i wouldn't want it any other way!
my greatest fear is losing loved ones.
i get annoyed when i find hair or disgusting bits in my food.
my dog is non-existent.
kisses are the best when they come spontaneously (sabrina this does not include you).
tomorrow is a torture. fastforward to december please.
i really want love, joy, peace (and other hippie ideals). cue the release of doves...
i have low tolerance for people who are arrogant.

i tag charlotte, weiyan, corinne, jien, jael, alex, mitchel and...
haha, whoever seriously, i'm just ecstatic that pitas is finally working.

shuwei, drive me away from here!

you know how there are some things you just can't take your eyes off;
be it a person's face or like a perfectly shaped vase (i used to stare at mr foo's terracotta works because they were so smoothly sculpted).
anyway, my point is, i can't stop staring at these
crazy beautiful things.

Monday, September 25, 2006 07:15 p.m.

mid-tutorial.
smithereens: "don't you people laugh when someone farts? or are you all too well brought up for that? (aside) of course not."
:)

some days like today, my head pullulates with words and thoughts and concepts beyond my capacity to capture them quickly enough and i end up scribbling down the most random words on whatever scrap of paper within reach.
i realise that while boey kim cheng writes beautiful english (and is quite the sweet soul based on our ho-hum meeting with him), i honestly detest annotating his works because they are riddled with repetitions and emo-ness that borders on eye-rolling rather than an "omg i've been there" reaction;
this may stem from my deep-gutted fear that i'm going to do considerably badly for his paper.
also, i realised that quoting from lit texts is a huge liability for me mid-paper because i like to go on in a full-out blowout elaboration without the need to pause and "quote from the text" (i get this in red all the time).
don't you think copying choice phrases from the text hinders your thought process at all?

anyway, i'd like to lock this place up but i'm quite the computer cretin;
and no, no lj for me.

i proofread because i care for your opinion.

but now get me back to sweet sixteen.

stolen pictures;
at the rooftop tennis courts.

looking constipated.

i was wrong.
boey kim cheng is comparably more emo than jamie.

but anyway, happy birthday girls!

Sunday, September 24, 2006 12:01 a.m.

edit: congrats corinne and charlotte;
i'll watch you on tv and record the show and archive it. :)

ah bengs and the like should just be banished from the face of this earth quite honestly.
passive smoking, bawdy jokes and relentlessly irritating (not to mention shrill) ringtones ought not to be allowed.

is it me or are the people in town of a different crowd these days;
no students, nary an old person, yet thronging with saturday night clubbers.
or maybe i just never really noticed.
and!
i finally perused one dali sculpture and met up with bella belle for the first time in a million years - she now comes with new and improved emo hair.
you know i love you, still. :)

this is quoting eugene o'neill quoting jamie quoting dante;
my favourite line out of my favourite textbook out of my favourite subject in school.
(i need to stop this mirror-against-mirror thing huh.)

"Look in my face; my name is Might-have-been;
I am also called No-more, Too-late, Farewell
"

i say jamie does the emo thing best.

Friday, September 22, 2006 12:05 a.m.

okay so janice cancelled on me and charmaine even though i'd been really looking forward to seeing her.

me: janice if you were my boyfriend this is the part where we break up.
jan: karina if you were my girlfriend this is where i expect you to be understanding.

argh it's impossible to get mad at you, i hope you know that!

Wednesday, September 20, 2006 05:46 p.m.

day one.
:(

B for general paper (i swear there's a glass ceiling above me) and i think a straight F in economics at the rate i'm going.
melodramatic but true.

Tuesday, September 19, 2006 01:19 a.m.

picked this up from corinne.

hahaha!

life is a whole lot of bumming around right now;
6 films and the latter half of L word season 3 in the past three days.
today was my first time at cathay with charmaine for the devil wears prada and singapore dreaming;
lim yu beng speaking mandarin definitely makes for good comedy!

talking about comedy, i think i just witnessed weiyan's most unglam moment ever.
but don't worry dear, your secret's safe with me. :D
(herngliang, too bad you left starbucks early man.)

this is like circa 2004, haha.
but anyway i really wish all your exams would finally end and that there were no geographical differences.
grrr.

Sunday, September 17, 2006 01:41 a.m.

we watched alfie yesterday (check out our exam eyebags).

and i quote.
"Unattached. Free as a bird. I don't depend on nobody. Nobody depends on me. My life's my own. But I don't have peace of mind. And if you don't have that, you've got nothing. So... What's the answer? That's what I keep asking myself. What's it all about? You know what I mean?"

and while we're at it, from one of my favourite films. :)

knox
"I see a sweetness in her smile.
Bright light shines from her eyes.
But life is complete;
Contentment is mine, just knowing that...
Just knowing that she's alive."

Knox crumples his poem and walks back to his desk.

knox
Sorry, Captain. It's stupid.

keating
No, no. It's not stupid. It's a good effort. It touched on one of the major themes, love. A major theme not only in poetry, but life. Mr. Hopkins, you were laughing. You're up.

hopkins
"The cat sat on the mat."

keating
Congratulations, Mr. Hopkins. Yours is the first poem to ever have a negative score on the Pritchard scale. We're not laughing at you, we're laughing near you. I don't mind that your poem had a simple theme. Sometimes the most beautiful poetry can be about simple things, like a cat or a flower or rain. You see, poetry can come from anything with the stuff of revelation in it. Just don't let your poems be ordinary.

of eldritch melodies and nonsensical words;
songs that don't plaster themselves to the crevices of your brain and become, themselves, earworms.
that's my development of a playlist particularly for studying outdoors although books are off the agenda for now. :)
am leaving for supper.

talking about bad things happening to good people...
guess who reached school before 7am for a 2pm paper.
yes.
after that smack-your-forehead moment, i came up with the brilliant plan of crashing sabrina's place and i'm so happy i did. :D
breakfast, tv, napping, going through old photos...
and oh yes, i collected fisheye photos at the printshop - blackmail material!

i'm skipping the bit about our tragic economics paper.

dinner at the crepe place was sooooo good, i'm going back there again and again and again and again.
okay i'm off.

Monday, September 11, 2006 11:51 p.m.

1. i (quite bravely) attempted the essay instead of context questions for all 3 literature texts.
no memorised quotes - quite, quite dead.
mr smith's contemporary lit better be kinder!

2. i asked my dad about the hare krishna and he sang the 16-word hare krishna mantra out for me.
part-shocking, part-hilarious, part-shocking again.

3. we migrated to orchard today.
no more novena starbucks with weird boys who borrow stationery and try to be chummy with us - yuck.

4. happy early birthday tricia!
can you believe this is the latest photo i have of us.
i'll be hearing all 6 voices in 5 minutes. :D

5. pardon the inane post but i want to snip off my hair again.

“What if a demon were to creep after you one night, in your loneliest loneliness, and say, 'This life which you live must be lived by you once again, and innumerable times more; and every pain and joy and thought and sigh must come again to you, all in the same sequence. The eternal hourglass will again and again be turned and you with it, dust of the dust!' Would you throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse that demon? Or would you answer, 'Never have I heard anything more divine?'”

when i was a little boy i used to wonder
just how old you'd have to be to feel good
now i've seen a thousand girls but i still wonder
'cause they just don't make sense to me
god knows i've tried

Saturday, September 9, 2006 01:15 a.m.

haha, i think i'm behind huiqi in this one because of the blue/black shinguard but anyway hey, i wanted to call you while at novena today but i got distracted in the process. :)

i heard that the nus literature programme includes lolita as one of their texts which is making me insanely jealous;
that's my favourite storybook!
although come to think of it, dissecting a novel and overanalysing the words can sometimes kill what little magic you derive from surface reading, so all the better.
an afternoon of back-to-back radiohead, othello and long day's journey into night puts you in this horribly melancholic mood that's inescapably haunting!

Friday, September 8, 2006 12:41 a.m.

omg i accidentally clicked on something in itunes and my entire ipod is wiped out!
zilch!
finito!
the guestbook isn't working either.
and my handphone is slowly but surely screwing up.

technology is failing me...

Tuesday, September 5, 2006 11:33 p.m.

amerikah.
i went a bit crazy with the red tape (pun intended).

tyler durden: "now, a question of etiquette - as i pass, do i give you the ass or the crotch?"

Monday, September 4, 2006 11:52 p.m.

yes please!
(can't seem to login and post a comment there)
today, i tried wee nam kee for the first time and i still think far east has tastier chicken rice.
did some econs at the novena starbucks with herngliang and weiyan must be like the #1 distraction in the world.
made her sit and listen to my playlist of 90 favourite songs and i finally decided that it's very important for me to live with someone who listens to the same music i do because i'd hate for my partner to suffer in silence and i sure as hell don't want to tolerate bad music either.
but then again weird songs grow on me quite easily.
okay, randomness.

coffee costs more than dinner, absurd!

be my baby
i'll look after you

Sunday, September 3, 2006 08:30 p.m.

lectored during mass today.
i'm running out of black pants and white shirts and i think it's only my duty to be appropriately attired (haha) so yes, more shopping!

anyway i think i'm living in the third world (although technically 'third world' is an obsolete term because the second world does not exist - human geog!).
my reasons for saying so is because pitas sucks and signmyguestbook sucks but i'm still using those darned sites - that don't work - creating a lot of unnecessary fuss and energy-loss.
as if at this point of time i don't more important things to do like perhaps study for the prelims considering the fact that prospectuses from uk have arrived in the mail and i'm freaking out just looking at the admission requirements.
okay whatever karina stop rambling.

replies.
kaixin: no problem! i bet you didn't notice that i was the one who ate all the kiwi on top of your cake.
ad: yes i'm halfway through. thanks!
yyt: haha very funny, who is this?
swei: i'll have my very own sally? yes! LOVE! i sent you a package and it was supposed to be a surprise but they made me list down every single item on the box so...yes. do you realise how our surprises always spoil. i'll tell you more when you get the parcel. :)
geri: i can't believe i don't have you on msn. mine's karinayx@hotmail.com - add me add me! we can talk shit all day. if you really want to study i'll be at starbucks outside united square everyday from tomorrow onwards. :)

i miss mr smith so here's a quote of his during lecture one day.
"(analysis of random boey kim cheng poem)...thus showing angst, (under his breath) which i'm sure all of you are familiar with."

hahahahaha.
a you-had-to-be-there-to-laugh moment.

Saturday, September 2, 2006 12:00 a.m.

edit: you know, i used to attend all these speech and drama classes in primary school where we had to introduce ourselves with an alliteration ie. rowdy rachel.
as you can imagine, i found it difficult coming up with superlative adjectives starting with the letter 'k', and was always stuck with the less-than-flattering 'kiasu', predictable 'kind', or once to the horror of my instructor, 'kinky karina'.

i actually have a point in this but not sleeping the past 24 hours is getting to me...

another random thought:
i have a really romantic idea of dressing myself when i get old.
i'm going to wear scarf upon scarf like a little old bag lady with loose raw silk wrap-pants and huge-ass tinted prescription glasses for the potentially failing eyesight and be really eccentric about it.
kids will create stories about me and run away when i look them in the eye.

i can't wait.

and this just feels like spinning plates my body is floating down the muddy river and this just feels like spinning plates
i'm living in cloud cuckoo land

- radiohead

omg i actually know these crazy a21 girls.

Voodoo Girl
by Tim Burton

Her skin is white cloth,
and she's all sewn apart
and she has many colored pins
sticking out of her heart.

She has many different zombies
who are deeply in her trance.
She even has a zombie
who was originally from France.

But she knows she has a curse on her,
a curse she cannot win.
For if someone gets
too close to her,

the pins stick farther in.
