birthday dinner with the grandparents;
chilli crab, black pepper crab, butter prawns and baby squid make for one VERY HAPPY CAMPER.

Monday, April 30, 2007 01:47 a.m.

today was all about mass and lunch with janice and charmaine;
i can't decide if i like indian or japanese curry better.

before a birthday post that i'm going to put up when i feel less lazy, maybe a pictorial summary of april;
the month i had so much free time on me i was game enough for almost anything.

# oily, contemplative suppers at newton circus.

# latenight mustafa centre shopping.

# twice at pow for little band gigs.

# jo's birthday meetup with the class girls.

actually, these are purely the things i did with weiyan present, since these are her photos after all.

# many impromptu suppers.

i'm too lazy to upload photos from my own camera, and right now, way too lazy to prepare for an interview that i want to ace so badly.
sigh.

when panic grips your body and your heart is a hummingbird
raven thoughts blacken your mind until you're breathing in reverse
all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse
every reassurance just magnifies the doubt
better find yourself a place to level out

Saturday, April 28, 2007 01:14 a.m.

just got off the phone with sarah the chemical-engineering nerd in america who skipped class to do homework (but i still love you!), sab, michelle and tricia - conference calls, i like!

Friday, April 27, 2007 06:37 a.m.

we put this up at island creamery for the juniors yesterday.

sherelynn frightens me sometimes.

needless to say my body clock is screwed beyond measure and reading haruki murakami this time of day is not helping particularly when so much is mentioned about the twilight zone;
i'm not an exceptionally big fan of his novels nor the very genre for that matter but that is what i do - read things i don't particularly like or know how to appreciate just to put myself out of my comfort zone and try to taste what it is people find so appealing.
i would much rather read lolita, dracula or east of eden (love the characterisation and language in these books) and i've quite a dominant mother hubbard within me so i don't suppose contemporary works are to my taste (though i love arthouse film!)

getting back to my point, it sometimes makes me feel stupid not being able to understand why it is people enjoy certain passions and interests - this would encompass chinese wayang and contemporary dance, and to some extent sculpture and other three-dimensional art forms.
certainly i can see the skill and craftmanship involved in all but they never really struck me as breathtaking or mind-blowing;
i broke it down and it's my belief that what you're weaned on since young is largely the creative compass in your later years.

take chinese wayang - it's more ear-piercing than anything but i love italian opera and musicals (i can memorise les misérables!) because my parents brought us up watching these shows.
my younger cousin can sit for hours watching chinese wayang but i doubt i'll ever acquire that habit.
i don't understand contemporary dance (it puts me to sleep really) possibly because the freeform nature of it contrasts so starkly with classical ballet and its staid constrictions, which is a discipline that i've been trained in since i was 4.
sculpture has largely remained a mystery to me - this i discovered during art excursions back in the day - and the only projects i chose to undertake in mr foo's classes were always the two- dimensional etch-printing, painting, drawing and collage-making.
i mean i suppose there must be some significance behind
abstract displays but if it isn't as pretty as this, i can't appreciate it all that much.

wish i could appreciate them better though.

i just grabbed supper haha.
anyway i started off with a point but dawn breaks (enter the sun) so i guess in summary all i have to say is people need to be more open-minded about the interests of others and quit criticizing based on shallow opinions.
i mean has anyone read the forum page in the straits times dated 27th april on gay rights in singapore?
it's a diversion from what i've been saying so far but honestly...

Are homosexuals truly born gay?

please read it;
it's the singularly most preposessed and jaundiced piece of writing i've ever come across in the straits times forum (and believe me they often are).
i may be exaggerating, but honestly!

okay, this is definitely the lack of sleep talking - time to scoot.

Tuesday, April 24, 2007 05:46 a.m.

dinner today was awesome!
pictures as soon as malorie uploads them...
anyway it's nearing 6 in the morning but that's okay because my ipod is nicely packed with new songs and albums for the month ahead.

hey now now, they'll find you when you're sleeping now now
they'll reach in and grab what you're dreamin' now now
cut it up and slip it back in, and i know, and i know, and i know it

hey now now, the smallest things are crushing me now
the crush crush crush is so comforting now
did the earth just slam in the sun, and i know, and i know, and i know it

won't undo their past by walking and talking backwards

this weekend's borders sale has got to be one of the best deals yet (buy 4 items and get a 25% discount off everything);
it was a little tricky shopping in multiples of 4 but i managed to get stuff like bright eyes'
cassadaga and mika (can't resist pop sometimes) and many many paperback novels and magazines for the coming month of freedom i give myself before summer school and university take over.

good-shopping-friday was followed by saturday brunch at ps cafe with the girls.

as usual, i spy on kids (this one's an adorable australian);
harding road has got to be one of the most untouched places in singapore save for expat-frequented restaurants setting up shop in big and airy colonial houses - i want to live in one!

some of us left for jiaying's place right after;
this one was my best hand early on in the game before the luck kinda ran out.

this weekend has truly been all about good food;
after mass today, the family had lunch at da paolo il giardino in cluny court and i spied on french kids running amok!

endnote: my photography sucks doesn't it?
i figure it's also because i always take pictures on the sly. :D

Thursday, April 19, 2007 11:42 p.m.

edit: i stole your photo, jo.

1. yesterday's gig was abrupt but great while it lasted;
shopping at mustafa was a real eye-opener and definitely the place to go for smoothie necessities!

1.1. a failed groupie shot;
wish i could've heard more of yiqin. :(

2. finally caught up with weiyan over some sticky rice goodness;
have fun in xiamen, you.

3. sat down for more than 4 hours with nut, gladys, joline, feijuan, huiqi and meifang after today's hockey match (we won 5-0);
i hope our plans pull through because hongkong has already eluded me 3 times before!

3.1. i see that my jump is closest to the ground...

4. i hope there won't be any racist incidences in light of the virginia shootings;
as it is i hear that summer courses are being cancelled for some local schools, hmmmm.

5. university acceptances/rejections are starting to worry me - this suspense could be the worst yet!

Tuesday, April 17, 2007 11:59 p.m.

the juniors won 9-0 against ajc!
that's just crazy!

Monday, April 16, 2007 01:08 a.m.

halfway through navigating saturday's fashbash flea market with tiffany and charmaine (who found me the cutest dress amidst chaos, thanks) i bumped into this former editor that i really respected way back in secondary school except she now exudes a whole different aura;
there wasn't any of the glamour i'd associated with her but there wasn't an expectedly bitchy vibe either - i guess all i can say is that it was a tad disappointing and highly ironic that i'd just attended a mass comm interview.

so the past few days have been all about catching up over food i enjoy with people i like and incidentally falling asleep in a movie theatre (as was the case today), making for one frenetic weekend that kinda muffles the voice at the back of my head going "what are you gonna do about it?" - 'it' being an ambiguous term referring to the many matters that plague a typical teenager these days.
righttt, no more specifics.

just ordered the
marie antoinette soundtrack and other miscellaneous stuff from amazon - check your mailboxes in a couple of weeks, i just might've sent you something!

Saturday, April 14, 2007 12:36 a.m.

shuwei's home!
and slap my face or stuff my mouth with something, seriously.

this morning's taxi driver really pissed me off not only because he didn't know where napier road was and therefore took me on a roundabout that amounted to 15 dollars but also because i got there late just as it started raining - bummer really.
the whole visa interview was a quick affair thankfully so michelle and i went for breakfast right after - my turkey&cranberry sandwich is back at starbucks!

the dentist was his usual self during the checkup today - whispering something incomprehensible behind that mask but always in soothing tones and unnecessarily apologising during the whole cleaning process when i was pretty much enjoying myself throughout;
he's so gentle i swear.

went down to vivocity right after and the food there is seriously good.
we ate at
redwhite&pure (i likeee omg please try!) and boostjuice and corduroycafe, catching up and talking nonstop from place to place.
i love them so much teeheehee.

you know, i really hate narrative, emotive entries like this one here so i'll just stop right about now.

current goal in life: to be eligible for the boostjuice membership.

Thursday, April 12, 2007 11:56 p.m.

farewell dinner with alex at newton circus today.
have fun in the army, you.

Thursday, April 12, 2007 12:21 a.m.

edit: i can be a real genius sometimes.
i'm replacing my ic and going for interviews on friday and saturday - all of which require passport photos - and i just took a set of 15 a few days ago when i still had long hair.
gonna have to retake them all now, gahhh.

rooftop steamboat...

...followed by jello, wine, twister and cheesecake by the poolside.

i gave the hairstylist free reign;
it's longer in front and slightly shorter at the back.
urm, i think i look kinda emo in the photo - HAHAHA.

anyway right after that, i bought su her favourite cappuccino and apple pie from farcoast and surprised her at palais renaissance.
oh gosh i've missed her so much.
we sat down for a while to catch up and she treated me to a bag of teuscher truffles - yay!!!
iloveheriloveheriloveher.

Tuesday, April 10, 2007 12:54 p.m.

i'm in the office now!
anyway the past couple of days were fun;
shuwei's back from america and yesterday was michelle's birthday.
we had so much to eat at her party but i still managed a haagen dazs popsicle when i got home at 1am - no sense of discipline whatsoever.
and i swear i got a cold from jumping into the pool yesterday night but of course the rest will think i'm exaggerating.
i'll upload the photos later because i left my phone cable at home!

lunch time now...
chicken rice again?

Sunday, April 8, 2007 01:47 a.m.

scrap the previous entry...
today was the awesomest.

bought a piece of huge-ass manchester united luggage (partially to annoy my sis 'cause she loves liverpool) which is the perfect size for new york - totally made my day.
also got a pair of white skinny pants from miss sixty with the birthday discount that made them absolutely worth it so yes i'm pretty much broke until daddy comes back from india.

frivolity aside, today was well spent with the girls.
covered lotsa ground metaphorically.

:) the end.

Wednesday, April 4, 2007 01:33 a.m.

dropped by serene centre to return dvds, satiated my chicken morelle craving, scalded my tongue on gastronomia's moccacino, received a parcel from paris, almost died jaywalking;

down up down up down.

when a guy tells me i'm cute, it's not something desirable. cute is more like what you want your pet to be.
