My pitas page

sigh
so it looks like chris martin and gwynnie are indeed together to stay, at least in a shared-biology kind of way. this is quite annoying.

the pillsbury bake-off
i am entering. and i also hope to win. i'll let you know when the sampling happens...

i'm so excited
and i just can't hide it. just found out that the new york city parks department granted the permit for a certain ceremony next summer. see that big spot on the map called "the lawn"--it's all ours! yee-ha!

cake thoughts
so while my dream is to someday open a bakery of my very own, the thoughts of making my own wedding cake dancing in my head lately are, i know, insane. who wants to worry that whole week before the big day about baking, frosting, decorating? not me, not really. and yet i am really liking a cake made by this company, which i know is definitely not going to be made by the restaurant without incurring a big fee, and which we cannot purchase from the cake people without a big fee. so there is no way to have this wedding cake, which sort of makes me sad and yet i am pretty much ok with it. (it's under "wedding cakes/less traditional/page 6" and it's the purple one though it would certainly not be purple in "my wedding," says bridezilla. it's just a fun-looking cake.)

the namesake
this book is the most addictive one i've read since "the davinci code", as disparate as they are in genre. it's amazing--this woman can write, y'all. highly recommended.

partying with the french
for the first time ever i was able to sneak friends onto the invite list for a great book party, held at the cultural services division of the french embassy. it was well-catered, well-attended, and there is something about standing in a gilt-trimmed room to make one feel like one actually might understand the french of the speeches being made. alas, that last bit was a pipe dream, but it was a good time nonetheless.

child labor
while i am happy for this 14-year-old boy who's signing a 6-year contract to play soccer for DC United, it seems a bit accelerated. like maybe he would be better served hanging out with his friends rather than playing pro soccer.

secret santa
it's that time of year again--sign up to send a "needy" child christmas gifts through this agency. it's very fun, i promise.

new wheels
being a stickler about what running shoes one buys is a huge pain in the behind. especially when most stores charge--get this--$95 for the pair that you need/want. it's ridiculous. so i was quite happy to find this sports gear site that seems to sell just about everything at somewhat more reasonable rates. and here are my shiny new shoes, hopefully on the way to me soon.

another birthday come and gone
and here i am, no longer in mid-twenties, now in late twenties. but somehow, amazingly, still in the 20's, which is cool. i think it means i still have a long time to be irresponsible by slacking off at work, eating candy for dinner, and planning wacky schemes to wend my way to fame and fortune, with hopefully more of the latter, not the former. anyhoo, the gang sweetly gathered in great force at this bar friday night and i had a great time talking to everyone despite having a wicked headache. balance of weekend was spent window shopping, have a wine-glazed dinner with c on saturday night, getting a massage, cheering manchester united, and dining with the hayes clan, not necessarily in that order. and now, back to life, back to reality. bummer.
