washington d.c.
going here in april with boy to revel in cherry blossoms and otherwise enjoy former home city. planning to spend some quality time on the banks of the tidal basin, basking in the sun. hopefully the global warming we're experiencing this winter will hold out long enough to make that come true. otherwise, will create false sense of sunny-ness at cactus cantina.

gosford park
saw this last night and it really wasn't that bad--i liked it. the acting was really terrific in some cases, everything *looked* beautiful, and while the ending wasn't as hidden and tricky as i would have liked, well, there was still a bit of a twist at the end. the only down side is that we went to the 9 pm show and toward the end i was just so sleepy that i think it may have been a bit ruined for me. that altman guy like his movies long.

let's go patriots
i am by no means a football fan. but: yesterday's win by the patriots, sending them to the superbowl, was so darn exciting i could barely sit still. i actually have a team to root for this year! this will be fun! and in other sports news, i went to my first pro hockey game this weekend, the new york rangers vs. the washington capitals. rooted for the rangers because why not, and they won, which was, again, pretty cool stuff. i still don't know anything about sports, but i can see why people get all riled up about them now.

what's your take on cassavetes?
last night: le tigre at the polish national home in greenpoint/williamsburg, brooklyn. sadly, no t-shirts for the "warsaw" concert venue were to be had, but there was indeed kielbasa and pierogie there for the noshing. the home itself is a trek from the L train, and not recommended for those walking alone at night. the inside of warsaw: picture your elementary school's gymnasium, the one that also doubled as an auditorium and cafeteria. it was fun, though, to see the fantastically creative ensembles of all the brooklyn kids. the legwarmers-with-high-heels look is apparently in. ah, the 80s revival. le tigre finally came on at midnight and totally rocked. had to leave before they finished, but i would so, SO go see them again.

montebello
went here for work lunch today. good but quite stuffy. i think it will be my policy from here on out NOT to go to places recommedned for work lunches. i always feel about five years old and they're just not much fun.

pita etiquette
above, the link to the "which stroke are you" game, which says i am julian casablancas which makes me happy because he cracks me up. now: this link came from catherine's pita, but she got it from another pita. whose pita should i credit? it's a conundrum not dealt with properly in any etiquette book on the market today. too bad. just go to catherine's (yeah, you know how to get there, which is good because i have no idea how to embed another link in this text) and take it from there.

"sex & the city"
whoever thinks carrie bradshaw is a dumb girl please raise your hand. aiden was the best. she will be sorry.

kielbasa and rock n roll
ok, i have to admit the part of me of polish descent is way excited to be catching le tigre here next week: the polish national home in greenpoint, brooklyn. and i've never been to greenpoint so it's even more of an adventure. on a thursday night! i'm gettin' crazy!

valentine's day
so organized: will be here on 2/14's made-up holiday, listening to the dulcet tones of rufus wainwright. another new nyc concert venue for me--very exciting to knock it off the list of places to check out.

ambrose: cheater!
i'm sorry, but all this sympathy for ambrose and his plagiarism is starting to grate on me. i mean, come on! he made millions of dollars using other peoples' work! we've all done that thing once in a while where you think of a really good line but it turns out it's from a movie, not your own head--but to PUBLISH this sort of thing REPEATEDLY...it's a whole other ball game. he should apologize, and somehow be punished. (though of course were his publisher to drop him he'd be immediately snapped up by another house because he's a guaranteed money-maker--which is also so very slimy. where's the integrity, people?)

west wing's ho
that would be me. i am so making a purchase from this site as soon as i can justifying buying a "bartlet in 2002" t-shirt. maybe "just because" is a good enough reason.

stereophonics
(sing) have a nice day...have a NICE day.... (ahem) i love that song. and they were good opening for u2. so hopefully the show at irving plaza 2/7 lives up to my expectations!

belated birthday dinner
with good buddy a. here last night. the food is: still. so. good. for all who may not know, a. is having a birthday bash at bar 13 in a couple of saturdays--there is a seemingly hefty charge to get in, but it covers three hours of open bar, during which you could easily drink more than your fair share of alcohol. if you wanna come but haven't gotten the e-vite, let me know and we'll see what we can do. should be fun...
