Oh, in other unrelated news, Third Strike has updated. Some weird things to see there.

I saw MGS2!!! Since, I've taken the MGS2 vow of chastity (I won't play it until I have a ps2 of my own), I was relagated to drooling puddles on the floor. Ok, the game made me want to roll around and orgasm. The excecution of the cut scenes were just so bloody BRILLIANT, not to mention the detail, AI, and overall feel of the gameplay itself. The MUSIC! Ay, don't get my started. No cheap midis, no this is real orchestrated stuff.

And yes Tim, I'm seriously considering using the MGS theme as my wedding song. XD Now there's a site to imagine. Erm, I have one gripe. What is WITH the New Guy's (I refuse to call him by his name, he will always be "New Guy") design? A mild warning to anyone who a) has no real interest in science fiction fantasy books or b) has not read Golden Fool yet.

BIG FAT FUCKING SPOILERS AHEAD

Well, seriously, I went to Collins Bookstore today, to look for Robin Hobb's Golden Fool was on the topsellers (#5). Naturally I spent $30 AUS and trooped off home, Fool trilogy Book 2 in hand. After several hours of hardcore reading I finished it. All 599 pages of it. And now I'm dissatisfied. Ms Hobb has this wonderful talent of creating a character and then tearing them all down again, then reconstructing them. However, this book is very event driven, (understandably since Fitz has to while away half of the book over, since he refuses to talk to the Fool...><"), but it didn't seem so much politically driven as the Assassin Trilogy, which for me, was a big downer. Overall though, the book had enough Skilling and a big poignant end scene to keep me happy, though there are some issues I'm really confused about...

1) Is the Fool an Outislander? Because I seem to recall him/her (for now I'll refer to the Fool as him, since that's how dear Fitzy sees him) telling Fitz in FE that he was raised by two males, and in GF, we are told that this is customary in the Outislands. Uh, so what's the link between the Fool, Elliana and the Pale Woman? We know that the tattoos are applied when young and the Fool was sent off somewhere to "study" and got tattooed, so, how did Elliana get tattooed? Can the Fool's tattoos be controlled by this Pale Woman?

I really liked Dutiful in this book. He shit me off in FE, which was I'm sure the intended effect, but in GF, he's bright, cheerful, although certainly very naive, though he does make mistakes, I find myself liking him for some weird reason. But Chade! Wtf happened to him? I really loved that crotchety old guy, and all of a sudden he turns power hungry and Skill obsessed? I really get the feeling he doesn't have Fitz's or even the Six Duchies' best interest at heart. He just seems even more bitter than ever, and gets none of my sympathy. *pushes Chade into the Skill River and hopes he drowns*

Starling is still a bitch, I truly hated her whole "mounting" comment, what's more she doesn't despise Fitz for his-er... perceived homosexuality...(shit what an awkward phrase), but because she's been deposed. On the subject of women in this book. Jinna is a fucking bitch. We all know that she was a backup plan but STILL. She was heaps ready for it. That sex scene nearly put me off the book. But still I kept reading. This failed relationship goes to show that no one really understands Fitz except the Fool, even Kettricken who's character is developing remarkably well.

F/K shippers turn away. I see no possibility for a relationship. Kettricken loves Verity. Fitz loved Verity (in his "as a man loves another man" way). They both love each other as friends, and each is a reminder to the other of a husband and a king. That's my take on the F/K story.

Of course. The Fool and the Fitz. Fitz spends half the fucking book over a lover's tiff, (which imho is what it really IS). Ugh. I agree with Jek. I mean, just how direct can you get. He just shows a total disregard for the Fool's feelings, and seriously, if the they weren't made each other, I'd tell the Fool to ditch this one. He deserves so much better. The whole flowers thing is too tragic. Pinning the flowers to his shirt and everything. But yes. Back to Fitz's total insensitivity.

*attacks Fitz* Of course this immediately gets the reader to expect that he will eventually get it on with the Fool, because we all love dramatic irony. The Fool is going to die, and all we can hope for is that he gets one good bang before he dies...At least there's that whole mushy Beloved ending to set things right. *hmmphs*

There was a time, I admit, when I thought the Fool was just plain old gay. Now I really believe he is a woman. This topic has been debated everywhere, so yes. I won't bother substantiating this claim. XD

Actually, I was thinking of going to Garbo tomorrow to pick up a Assassin's Apprentice and/or Royal Assassin. Mainly because I like the Fitz/Fool dynamics. Not sure whether to save up for Golden Fool which *should* be coming out this month, unless the publishers push back the date. The US get it in January 2003, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Anyways, big fat spoiler if you haven't completed the two trilogies yet...

It never occured to me until Fool's Errand that the Fool and Amber were the same person. Looking back, I feel so stupid. It's all there, the fevers, the riddles, the androgynous description. Oh yes, and also the Fitz obsession. Kinda obvious during Paragon's recarving. I'm hoping that in Golden Fool, Fitz and Paragon run into each other. That would be amusing. And on that topic, I'd like to state that I believe the Fool is a woman. Hell it would be cool if he was male, more gayness for me, but really, I think it would make more sense if the Fool was female. Still there's hints for either side, so I'll withold my judgement until this is fully resolved. Got a nasty feeling that Fitzfitz will end up with Jinna though; she and Hap represent everything he wishes for, home, family, anonymity, whilst the Fool is everything he tries so hard to avoid. Ack. If that happens, I shall be very unhappy. True, Jinna is a nice enough woman and all but the Fool has lusted longed for FitzChivalry for an eternity...well, it doesn't seem fair really. Besides, who couldn't love Fool after the infamous dimple dangle song. :D
