Fortress of Flags: A.I. Sandbox has been released!
Monday, October 1, 2007 02:49 p.m.

Fortress of Flags: A.I. Sandbox has been released. This is completely freeware and all are welcome to use it. This is a dream for those A.I. writers who do not want to be constrained to a custom language. Players are encouraged to design and write their own A.I. interface. This version of the gamed 3D engine uses XML to report the game progression and responds to commands issued via XML files created by your interface. This game comes with an example harness and VB6 source code to illustrate how your custom code can be developed. You can create harnesses to be the computer A.I. or even a harness linking two players together in a multiplayer game! You are encouraged to share your work with others here. Look for a library on the TacticalNeuronics.com site (coming soon). If you wish you can send your work to John.Reder@TacticalNeuronics.com to be posted. Once downloaded please review the readme.txt file for more information. Since this is its first release, please report any bugs or questions you might have with the program on the community forum (see [Community] link on the TacticalNeuronics.com website) and I’ll address them quickly if possible.

A new strategy game from the author of A.I. Wars!

This is a game of strategy and deception. Your goal is to locate and destroy the enemy 'Army King'. You move your army flags around a 3d battlefield of your choosing to trap and destroy enemy flags in your quest to find the enemy King. At first, neither army knows the values of their enemies flags. As the game progresses you will do battle with each other revealing the true value of the flags involved in the conflicts. As you slowly learn each others flags your goal is to devise a plan to attack at the heart of your enemy and eliminate their King! There are many types of flags you may place to create your army from 'Serpents' and 'Demons' to 'Sea Monsters' and 'Great Dragons'. Some can travel fast, others can travel on or over special terrain types such as water and stone. Others cannot move at all but can be devastating to attacking enemy flags.

Features Include: 3D battle interface, many maps to choose from and its own map editor. Multiple battle viewing options. Use a computer designed army or use the included army designer to create your own. Windows 95/98/NT/2K/XP OS and DirectX 8 compatible audio and video hardware required.

A.I. Wars v5.5.8 Patch / CAICLPro v1.0.2 Patch Released!
Friday, February 1, 2002 11:43 p.m.

Whew, two more patches comming at ya!
A.I. Wars v5.5.7 to v5.5.8 and 3D engine 1.0.6 to 1.0.7 patch
This is a Combonation patch it upgrades the main A.I. Wars program from v5.5.7 to 5.5.8 and the 3D Engine from 1.0.6 to 1.0.8. You'll need to make sure you have applied all previous patches to both engines before applying this patch. You can verify your current 3D engine version by looking at the text in the top left corner of your screen just before a 3D battle starts, it should read 1.0.6. You can verify that your current version of the the main A.I. Wars program by looking inthe lower left corner of the startup splash screen, it should read v5.5.7. This patch fixes an error message sometimes issued with saving edited maps. It also fixed a bug when saving a Cybug under a new name using the editor button from the start splash screen, it wasn't changing the edit window name to reflect the new file name. This patch fixes an issue with the 3D engine where the shadow of a Cybug is not removed when it self destructs.

CAICLPro v1.0.2 Patch
You can verify your CAICLPro version by looking in the Help/About dialog box. This patch enables v1 encryption in saved files by giving the user an option to save using v1 or v4 when saving a file. This will allow users to save their files using the v1 format for use on non-english systems using unicode instead of ansi.

It updates the 3D engine to v1.0.6 giving you some more eye candy with a cool end game sequence for the highest scoring Cybug thats still alive.

Non english language system owners can now use the 'SaveAs=Low' setting in the 'aiw_config.ini' file to use v1 encryption to prevent system lockups when running battles. See the encryption FAQ in the tutorials page for details.

Other minor changes were made to the Cybug editor interface.

Tuesday, January 22, 2002 09:18 a.m.

The 2d Battles were starting to get too fast on the newer PC's so the battle speed control bar from the birds eye debug mode has been enabled for regular mode as well. This allows you to decrease the battle speed by moving the scroll bar to the right.
A aiw_config.ini file was added to allow you to specify an external Cybug A.I. editor like CACCLPro or GVIM.
Note: Ignore the Cybug and Map path settings in this ini file, a future patch will enable them properly.

A.I. Wars 5.5.5 Patch Released

A.I. Wars v5.5.4 Patch Released!
Wednesday, September 19, 2001 08:31 a.m.

This small patch addresses a bug that has been present in all versions of A.I. Wars that used the 'cmath' command. Before the v5.5.3 3D upfgrade patch which in addition to adding the new 3D battle engine, replaced the CAICL editor with a new one that auto corrected/verified syntax. This new editor changed the case in all 'cmath' commands to 'CMath'. This innocent change actually caused the language parser to error on these cmath commands because it was looking for the string 'math' rather than 'Math' to update variables within the string with their true numeric values. This problem always existed but most users always used lowercase 'cmath' and since the editor didn't change the case before v5.5.3 nobody noticed the issue. This has been corrected and the cmath command is no longer case sensitive.

A.I. Wars v5 SHAREWARE released!
Thursday, December 23, 1999 08:46 a.m.

Jist in time for Christmas!!! After a very long pause in updating the shareware version of A.I. Wars, the wait is over! If you havn't registered yet, here's your chance to get a peek at what everyone is talking about. The v5 Shareware version only allows 2 Cybugs in a single battle with a 1000 click limit. Most battle settings are locked down. Smart clicks and strategy nodes are disabled but you do get to use all of the new commands like cMath, relitive scans and lets not forget the Grenades! Happy Holidays!

A.I. Wars version 5.0.5 to 5.0.6 patch released.
Monday, December 20, 1999 08:09 a.m.

This patch addresses a minor problem with reading the values of some system variables. Most Cybug developers do not use these and there is a simple workaround but I thought I'd patch it anyway.
The follwing variables are fixed in v5.0.6:

#overheatoff
#snodeoff
#smartclickoff
#bloodmodeon
#lastcybugon

The problem with these variables in version 5.0.5 was:
They're returning " 0" ore a " 1" instead of "0" or a "1" which offsets the parsed code. In order for it to work in v5.0.5 you'd have to do it this way.

math v1 = #overheatoff + 0
if value ~v1 = 0 then goto checkheat
if value ~v1 = 1 then goto forgetheat

the math function strips of the leading space from the variable so can be used.

A.I. Wars BattleShell v1.0.0
Tuesday, December 14, 1999 08:51 a.m.

This nifty add-on for A.I. Wars (The Insect Mind) v5 allows you to do battle on a grand scale. It adds a single player strategy component to the game and may allow for some interesting tournaments. It was inspired by the A.I. Wars tournament site called A.I. Wars Maneuvers hosted by Devon Ellis last year. This is the first release so I expect that user feedback will drive it in new directions in the Future. It is FREE but with one hitch, you need A.I. Wars version 5 to use it.

My ISP decided to kill the fresnel page siting that it transfered more than 3 gigabytes using 25% of there entire T1! I replaced the page with a simple pointer to my old compuserve homepage and other visitors mirrored it as well. The good news is that there is a A.I. Wars banner at the top with a link to the A.I. Wars pages, that should translate to even more players! Note: it was also mentioned on Geeknews.com the same day!
